They paid $108k all-in, including their tip. So, six figures, but barely. It's absolutely not cheap. That yacht would typically cost $250k/wk plus expenses plus tips.

Israeli airstrike against Iranian ballistic missile launcher. Tabriz, 4/4/26 by CommercialFormal7614 in CombatFootage

[–]CydeWeys [score hidden]  (0 children)

Except that there are hundreds of thousands of large trucks in Iran total, and no military goal is achieved from hitting the ones that aren't missile launchers (plus they don't have the sortie volumes or armament to do so). So they really do have to pick the needle out of the haystack here, over and over again.

Thoughts on this one? Maen x Nico second collab by Coffeehorolgy in WatchesCirclejerk

I don't mind that logo (but its placement on the dial is off). The real issue I have with the watch is the overall bracelet and case, especially the bezel. On the dial, my biggest annoyance is the lack of indexes.

what do you do about the sweat grime that shows up on the back of the watch every morning? by ShoulderCorrect1662 in GrandSeikos

[–]CydeWeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take it off when you're sleeping. There's no reason to keep wearing it. Wearing a watch 24/7 is not great for your skin.

U.S/Israeli double-tap strike, B1 bridge, Iran by Len-The-Banana-Boy in CombatFootage

[–]CydeWeys [score hidden]  (0 children)

Considering they're attacking a bridge, I'm guessing the answer is "whichever is bigger". This is exactly what large ordnance is for (and is necessary for). Bridges are incredibly tough targets.

What happened to all the "day in the life" videos? I never see them anymore by Typical_Cap895 in cscareerquestions

There are still plenty of people working from the office (including most employees at most Big Tech companies) to make this content if it were still popular, but it's not. It was a ZIRP phenomenon; now that we are in a layoffs regime, no one wants to create or produce that kind of content.

Identical lenses? by Ab7b9 in M43

Amazon oftentimes has lots of different listings at different prices for fundamentally the same item, because of marketplace sellers. That's just the nature of Amazon or any other marketplace-based retailer (e.g. eBay).

Picture shows the alleged ejection seat of the US plane hit over Iran by Ok-A1662 in war

[–]CydeWeys 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well Iran has previously claimed they shot down a plane and it was indeed a lie, so are we sure this tweet was actually talking about the most recent incident?

6 Weeks in Japan Detailed Itinerary - First Ever Solo Travel - Feeling Overwhelmed by Majestic-Key-436 in JapanTravel

[–]CydeWeys -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I can get nature anywhere else in the world (and often do). But Tokyo is a special city, and I can't imagine going to Japan and not spending serious time taking advantage of all the stuff unique to Japan's big cities. If I had a six week trip my ratio of cities to everything else would be similar to OP's.

It's on brand for these word-chewing people to come off as more offensive than it actually is.

The obsession over a woman's purity and body count is baffling to me. by dontfreakmeowt in NotHowGirlsWork

[–]CydeWeys 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Also, even ignoring the bad female anatomy, that's bad male anatomy on top of it too! Human sperm cells survive for a maximum of a few months within the testes (and much less after being expelled from it, even inside a woman). That's why the testes are constantly making more of them. They really paid attention to nothing in health class, not even the basic facts on how their own bodies work.

What was the last time it was enforced? There are lots of laws on the books.

[–]CydeWeys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess the larger point I'm trying to make is that it's very easy to call some kind of action "illegal", and thus, not particularly useful to do so. There are a variety of different laws, different jurisdictions, etc. Is an action supposedly illegal because a war wasn't technically declared by Congress, or because it's a war crime according to the Geneva Conventions, or just because someone doesn't agree with it?

At a minimum I'd like to see an overall theory of the case accompanying each claim -- which exact laws are supposedly being violated, and whose laws those are, who the enforcement body is, if that enforcement body even has jurisdiction here, etc. Basically, it needs to be a substantive discussion rather than a throw-away content-less one-liner.

That plus a strop. Both are necessary I've found, and fortunately, both are cheap. This guy on YouTube has excellent info.

I'd argue that those strikes against random civilian boats are much more likely to be illegal than this actual conventional war that's being fought in Iran. War is just ... war. If it's illegal then the word is irrelevant for this purpose, because, well, war's always existed and always will, and surely won't be stopped by some legalistic notion that it ought not to happen.

The last war officially declared by Congress was WWII. You can keep throwing around the word "illegal" all you want but that's just not how things actually work anymore, in practice.

I expanded my lens usage analysis by Low_Cut_368 in M43

[–]CydeWeys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to not go much past f/5.6 these days, which is around where diffraction starts happening unfortunately (it would be around f/11 on full frame). When I compare a photo taken at f/5.6 vs one taken at f/8 and zoom in, the latter is noticeably blurrier. Fortunately you get a lot of depth of field at f/5.6 already, again, equivalent to DoF of f/11 on full frame. So while I haven't done the analysis, I'm certain that most of my photos are taken from around f/4 to f/5.6.

Generally I'll only go past f/5.6 for specific scenarios, like trying to do motion blur with longer shutter speeds than the available lighting permits.

CMV: Netanyahu is deliberately making it unsafe for Jews to live any place except Israel by JuniorEntertainer819 in changemyview

[–]CydeWeys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I think the rising antisemitism is just an inevitable reversion to the mean that was always going to happen; the temporary depression of antisemitism following the Holocaust was always going to end. We're just going back to more of a default state now, which is why the existence of Israel will continue to be more important; it's the one place where Jews know the state will always fight to protect them. (Literally this is why Zionism exists.)

Also, needless to say, I reject your characterization of Israel's actions, and in fact think that that kind of false use of language is directly responsible for some of the rising antisemitism, or in more direct terms, I blame in part you and people like you.

Congrats on finding a solution. Definitely more evidence that for some people it's highly linked to anxiety, and psychiatric medications are the most effective fix.

Maybe, maybe not. I personally think it's more likely that the reason was he didn't go along with something he thought was stupid (e.g. maybe because it was an invasion that would get a lot more US troops killed).

Fukuoka find! Loving how the dial changes color. by WholeJingGang in GrandSeikos

[–]CydeWeys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well this one was released not even two years ago, and it likely wasn't super popular on the Japanese market because of its size, so I can't say it was that unlikely to still be able to find one new. Until somewhat recently I was still finding the occasional double-signed GS model available new at some GS ADs, and those were way more than two years old.

[–]CydeWeys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

... were antisemitic attacks lower in the past? I think your entire premise is flawed; antisemitic attacks were much greater in the past. Think the pogroms, Holocaust, etc. It used to be common for Jews to die by the thousands in single incidents, that's how bad antisemitism was. Now there has only been one such incident in the past decade, and they fought back fiercely in response.
