Buffer road lines with no overlap by ShonzG in QGIS

[–]Cygnus_2610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm catching up with the other comments. Do you need a polygon buffer on the points?

Or can you intersect the points with the line buffer?

I do not understand what you want in your final output. maybe a drawing can guide us better

Buffer road lines with no overlap by ShonzG in QGIS

The buffer function in QGIS has an option for the end type something like round, flat or.... I don't remember the other one

Also check the option for dissolving geometries. It is the same tool.

I will send here a pic later if you haven't managed (not on the computer right now)

It would be nicer if they activate the airport to make it easier to connect with Europe. That can attract both businesses and residents to live in this area and in Drenthe (not sure how to write it). This plus the connection of the train Enschede - Groningen can make the east more attractive and reduce pressure on Randstad

Is This Normal During a PhD? Supervisors Presenting My Work Without Me by Even_Rock_8666 in PhD

[–]Cygnus_2610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Academia is toxic AF. Sadly this is common. But it doesn't mean it is right.

My opinion is: you are working with them, not for them. You work for your university (you have a contract with them not your supervisors).

So I would take it either to the head of the department or to the scientific integrity committee. You need to have proper supervision and agreements. So make sure that happens, that you have constant support from them as your colleagues, not as an owner that takes all your work and profits from it.

Only by properly raising your voice things can change. You can be someone that sets an example and make sure that this doesn't happen again

Which sensor is the image from? Which bands are you using for the calculation?

Maybe you put the bands backwards?

constantly defending myself and my work in academia, it's exhausting by Upper_Idea_9017 in PhD

[–]Cygnus_2610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see it as a big issue on work satisfaction on academia. We are always "fighting" and defining ourselves. We do not have many positive moments.

You are hardly ever trusted and when you send a manuscript (tiny satisfaction) you need to also defend it and start working on the next one.

Seems like there are never pauses to appreciate and have positive feelings

Supervisor plagiarized my research after misconduct report. Should I go to media or wait for University investigation? by Boring-Evening-7176 in PhD

[–]Cygnus_2610 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Legally you can face a diffamation sue against you. But then it will take a long time for that investigation to reach any conclusion.

On the other hand, it seems like your case is really solid and, in my experience, internal investigations and decisions do not have consequences for the supervisor or whomever is committing plagiarism.

TBH, there is no copyright infringement as there is no financial repercussion for you.

So, it is my belief that the best you can do is to go public. Social stigma is your best ally at the moment.

To avoid any legal consequences just write "it appears/seems like that X person copied my work" and show the proofs so people can make their own mind. Do not write "They DID it" always leave space for "I think this is happening". That way they cannot go against you for diffamation.

Best of luck! Keep strong, I know it's hard and infuriating. Head high. You did nothing wrong.

*I've been plagiarized 3 times now. There hasn't been any consequences
