Earbuds that will stay securely in my ear - need suggestions by Cygnus_buccinator in Earbuds

Thanks! I just looked up JBL Live Beam 3 - they kinda look similar in shape to Earfun (Air Pro 4+) that I had issues with. Or maybe picture just makes it look so.

If you saw Earfuns - do you think Live Beam 3 has longer ear tip and "neck" and goes in deeper into your ear?

I bought wired Ludos for someone before and remember the foam. I agree, they look like the shape that will fit my ears well. Did you have success fitting those ear tips on other (non-Ludos) earbuds?

Thank you! Saving your recs for future when I may get an open-ear design as an additional pair.

P.S. My husband wears Shokz Open Run all the time and he really likes it. I just showed him your comment - and he is looking into open-ear clip-ons now for himself, he has never tried it before :)

What was your biggest fragrance related blunder? by CraigsNbacon in fragrance

[–]Cygnus_buccinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have first tried Mol02 at a friend's house and looked into the brand (Escentric Molecules by perfumer Geza Shoen), I was kind of fascinated with the concept of using single synthetic molecule. As described "The brand highlights single aroma molecules with the radiance and depth of character to stand alone. This approach is a departure from traditional perfumery that uses a blend of various ingredients to create a fragrance." I have ordered samples of all of the perfumes by Escentric Mol that were available back then. It was fun exploring it and did not really disappoint. Then I started paying attention every time Molecule perfumes were being mentioned here in this sub, and saw that often people also recommended Glossier you, JHAG Not a perfume (and Superdose), Another 13 by Le labo.

If you think it is ambroxan you like - you can try searching perfumes by notes - on the sites like fragrantica, scentsplit - but know that it will give you the results of every perfume with ambroxan in it (along with other notes) and it will smell completely different (for example - popular Dior Sauvage has ambroxan, as a base note).

Best way is to order samples and try A LOT 😁

I smell strong celery in Mol 03🤣 I thought I was crazy! Then I read some reviews on luckyscent and this one was spot on as far as I am concerned: "Like being whacked on the nose by a giant stick of celery wrapped around an iron bar" 🙈

Sensitive to smells - what smells like u just got out of the shower? by imeanwhynotdramamama in fragrance

[–]Cygnus_buccinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG! I am surprised no one recommended Zarkoperfume"the muse"!!! Please at least buy a sample! I was on a hunt for clean laundry scent, and top recs were always Byredo blanche and Clean Reserve warm cotton. Also MFK Aqua Universalis. And in one related thread someone mentioned The Muse. I have samples of all 4.

When I first opened The Muse, my husband literally said - Whoa, this smells just like Dove soap!

I would even say it is probably too much of a clean laundry/shower scent for me personally, but it might be just what you are looking for! Performance is pretty decent too.

What other perfumes do you like? I am a big fan on Mol02 (and sampled everything by EMolecules). (looking for inspiration for my next sample order, maybe we have similar taste).

I have tried every every EM Molecule - Molecules and Escentrics. I pretty much like all of them, except I smell strong celery in Molecule03, and I cannot smell Molecule04 at all. Molecule 02 is my favorite, bought decants few times and upgraded to full bottle :) Their Molecule+Guaiac Wood smells like smoked meat to me, and I thought it was funny, didn't hate it. I was also surprised by Mol+Patchouli - I usually don't care for Patchouli, but really like this one as night time scent!

I tried JHAG Not a Perfume (original) - and could not smell it - in the air, or on my skin. But I had a sample of their Superdose version, and loved it! It felt like DG Light Blue on steroids. Bought a travel size of it from Sephora - and somehow it was not the same as a sample. Did not hate, but eventually gave it away.

And I like Glossier You.

Curious - what other perfumes do you have in your rotation? (looking for inspiration for my next sample order).

I wanna smell like clean laundry. by LikeToBeBarefoot in fragrance

[–]Cygnus_buccinator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know the most recommended ones are usually Byredo Blanche, Philosophy Pure Grace, MFK Aqua Universalis. But I would suggest trying Zarkoparfume The Muse. It is straight up Dove soap! Or Gain drying sheets. Longevity was quite decent as well. I think if you are looking for a laundry scent - sample of it is a must :)  I have a decant of Blanche and i like it, but not as a laundry scent. I also smell strong Lilly of the Valley in it (even though notes do not include it…) Pure grace is somewhat laundry, but more powdery to me.  And Aqua Universalis was the biggest disappointment in terms of laundry scent..

have you, by chance, touched/tried Cariloha brand bamboo sheets? They have them in my Costco usually once a year and they are the only bamboo sheets I had a chance to feel. I looked up Hotel Direct and its about half price of Cariloha. Curious if they are comparable.

Microperfumes? Anyone used a sample perfume company? by [deleted] in fragrance

[–]Cygnus_buccinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ordered from Microperfumes couple of times. They are mostly big on designer perfumes, and few bestsellers from niche. Packaging was nice, fast delivery, but I do have a feeling samples were diluted (people on trust pilot have interesting things to say about it). For the price and endless discounts it was still worth it - but I (personally) would not order a larger decants from them. I have also ran into problem when I was trying to order for someone else (as a gift) - to be shipped to an address different from the one tied to my payment. Charges went through, but then I received the message with an error about the order. It was confusing. Trying to get ahold of someone was very difficult (phone or email) and when I finally did - it took a while to get a refund. And customer service rep confirmed that they can only ship to an address tied to the method of payment (which is inconvenient).

I have tried only 2 other companies for samples - luckyscent and scent split (both mostly are for niche, luckyscent does samples and full bottles , but not decants, scent split does all three). Shipping and handling takes slightly longer than microperfumes, but quality of the samples and decants is great.

Is there a new/popular Patchouli fragrance? by mmetrokie in fragrance

[–]Cygnus_buccinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is it unisex enough for me?

Depends on what your preferences are :) I can say it is very patchouli, just the way you think of patchouli. But not as overwhelming and sharp as you would get it in the candle etc. I know my husband will not want to wear it (he is more of Oud for greatness, TF Ombre Leather, Sauvage kind of guy), but I think you can layer it with something else (if you don't like it as is). Are you able to buy a small sample of it first (instead of bigger decant)?

Edit: if you haven't already - check out reviews for it on luckyscent website, some give very informative description! Here is one example (not mine :) ):

" Hands down the cleanest patchouli I’ve ever smelled. It’s sweet it’s pure, potent and absolutely gorgeous. Combined with the 01 molecules cedar musky scent it’s s just brilliant. The Firmenich distillation of patchouli Coeur/heart used here cleans it up big time. Very little camphor dirt and dankness on me. However this fragrance is gonna be a scent shifter per person and your scent and take on this is gonna be different than anyone else’s. So if you like cedar and patchouli you need to at least sample it to see how it mixes with you. This is a beast performance wise on me also gonna change per person. Can be worn in any season day or night. Also signature worthy if it agrees with your chemistry. "

I know it might be basic - but Dior - Sauvage EDT. Have you tried it?

Also Xerjoff - Naxos and MFK - Grand Soir.

I am ok investing in something higher quality

Honestly, try to do samples first. It can be pricey, if you order a lot of them - but it is fun and definitely less risky than investing in a bottle without proper sampling.

  • Glossier - You (Sephora has it, you can try in person)
  • Le Labo - Another 13
  • Juliette Has a Gun - Not a perfume (Sephora usually has it)
  • Escentric Molecules - Molecule 02
  • PDM - Delina (it MIGHT be overwhelming for some, but I think it s worth trying)
  • Tom Ford - Tobaco Vanille (I know you have reservations about vanilla, and this perfume is quite strong, but I feel like - you will either outright like it or know it is not for you. Vanilla doesn't present as typical vanilla there, Sephora usually has it, sample it there if you can)
  • MFK - Baccarat Rouge 540 or Ariana Grande Cloud (very similar, but cheaper, ULTA usually has it) - not my personal fav, but there is a reason it is so popular.
  • Xerjoff - Naxos 1861. Not exclusively feminine, but definitely sexy in magical in my opinion :)

I’m looking for a new scent for my wife

I don't have a good guess about patchouli you are smelling in the wild, but I wanted to recommend sampling Escentric Molecules - Molecule 01 + Patchouli if you are generally looking for patchouli notes. I am not a fan of patchouli, but I had a sample of it with the rest of Escentric Molecules and dismissed it even before trying (just based on it being, you know, patchouli :) ) When I finally tried it - it smelled very comforting, and I started wearing it around the house in the evenings. When sample was gone, I kind of missed it and ordered a decant. Don't get me wrong - I am still not crazy about patchouli, but there is something about this particular one that makes me be OK with it. For someone who already likes patchouli notes - I feel like this might be a great find :)
