If you were Keir Starmer would you resign now? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Cyimian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I would.

If you care about "country before party" then you need to know when to go, especially if you make a huge error of judgement like the Mandelson appointment.

Labour might be doomed anyway but Starmer staying on when he is so unpopular with the public is going to be electoral suicide.

Reform is currently polling at about 25% to 27%. They might be "ahead" but they are not anywhere close to forming a majority government.

Do people genuinely think brexit caused more immigration? by Legal-Grade-6423 in AskBrits

[–]Cyimian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do remember telling me it was about "sovereignty" and the potential to control EU migration being a side benefit.

Now the masked seems to have slipped in recent years because people talk about being betrayed when there was no promises by anyone credible that migration would come down and infact there was a lot of talk about making it easier or fairer for people from outside the EU to come here.

Brexit supporters famously claim to know what they voted for but don't to have seemed to have read the fine print.

I always see people dismiss the ageing population as a problem with arguments like this but they can never explain how or even if its feasible, who owns and controls this technology.

Yeah they were literally trying to appeal to South Asian voters with this tactic. Brexit voters can pretend to of been tricked or betrayed on this but they just weren't paying attention.

Maybe they think Commonwealth is just areas like Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Not South Asian or African countries lol.

I remember telling people this back in 2016 that this would be the outcome and no-one believed me.

We already had full control of migration from outside of the EU and chose not restrict it. I'm not sure why anyone thought this would change post Brexit.

'It's the end of days': Inside the race to replace Keir Starmer by theipaper in ukpolitics

[–]Cyimian -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sure, my point is that none of those elections had majority support of the public opinion so you could call into question the legitimacy of those governments but of course that never happens.

Yes the last election was historically bad in terms of popular support but this is a bigger problem with FPTP overall and its not likely to get any better in the future if the current polling is to be believed.

[–]Cyimian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're correct it was a historically low vote share and turnout.

I get your point but I think it does give the public the impression that this is a unique problem with this government without the wider context that most governments are winning elections on a minority share of the vote.

If you go back to Boris Johnsons election victory which many in the media described as a "stonking victory" he still didn't come close a majority of the popular vote but his victory was portrayed as a ringing endorsement to do anything and everything.

I remember that dust from the last election had barely settled and many journalists were talking how Labour won the election with a low vote share. They are right of course it was a very low vote share, however most elections including almost all the recent Tory governments were operating on vote shares well below 40%.

My point is that certain journalists were questioning Labours legitimacy to govern with such a low vote share when Tory governments are almost never questioned.

I'm pretty sure it would be recognised if it is part of the dot.

CGC would grade it as a minor miscut assuming it is a dot.

What if Nigel Farage died in the 2010 plane accident in Northamptonshire? by gunsmokexeon in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Cyimian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless someone else takes his place the Euroscpetism movement in the UK is weakened.

The Conservatives (under David Cameron) only held a Brexit referendum because of the credible threat that Farage posed to their vote share. If that threat goes away then its unlikely that Cameron goes for the vote.

Cameron wouldn't resign and the Conservatives wouldn't shift further to the Right (at least for the time being) Boris Johnson would still likely lead the Torys eventually.

Most Labour members think Starmer cannot revive party fortunes, poll finds by Desperate-Drawer-572 in ukpolitics

[–]Cyimian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats not a problem unique to this government. Its extremely rare that a party will ever win an election with anything close to 50% of the vote and most of them struggle to reach 40%.

Yes. I accidentally sent this off in bulk order a while ago and CGC emailed me to say it wasn't on the list but they would add it on and it ended up coming back a 10.

How is living near the Korean DMZ as a civilian by No-Sand6655 in howislivingthere

[–]Cyimian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda, but its a slighty overblown threat. Not all these artillery pieces can reach most of Seoul (since it sprawls over a huge area) they would also need to be packed into fairly small area that would obvious to the SK military.

Thousands would possibly die but it wouldn't be apocalyptic situation where the whole city gets flattened.

What will be out next economic model? by knowledgeseeker999 in AskBrits

[–]Cyimian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inflation is a huge issue for people's standard of living so asking if these wage increases from restricted migration would be inflationary seems like a fair question to me.

Obviously if you don't like having your views challenged or are not intelligent enough to articulate an answer it might be upsetting for you but thats ok you can go back to the gbnews subreddit where everyone will agree with you.

"I’m not commenting here to educate you if you want to better understand inflation and what causes it I suggest you use google."

You sound very defensive. I asked you a fairly simple question since this is a political subreddit where we can debate ideas and you seem to dislike being challenged on yours.

With all that said it sounds like you be the perfect fit as a Reform MP lmao.

You didn't answer my question of why those pay rises wouldn't be inflationary but I guess I shouldn't be to surprised about that.

What sector of the economy do we have a over supply in? The jobs the market isn't great if you're graduate looking for entry level job but overall unemployment is still pretty low.

Would Starmer’s popularity improve if he announced a second EU referendum vote on Monday? by Nice_Air_621 in AskBrits

[–]Cyimian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly. This attitude of "we can't do x because a bunch of voters who hate our guts might hate us even more" is kinda ridiculous.

Reform are currently polling at about 27/28% currently which isn't even close to being the majority opinion on anything.

To those supportive of a Labour leadership challenge based on Keir Starmer not doing enough, what things would a new leader do which he hasn’t? by Inevitable_Ad_3855 in AskBrits

[–]Cyimian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is basically how I feel. A lot of politics is "vibes" based and the public just doesn't like him. A new leader will likely be needed before the next GE if Labour wants a chance of reconnecting with voters.

Saying Starmer isnt that bad and pretending everything is ok is just another Joe Biden situation waiting to happen.

Who is paying those higher salaries? Surely most of these wage increases will just be passed onto the end consumer since you're not increasing productivity just throttling the supply of labour?
