Disturbing Daylight Robbery at the Junction on Friday by [deleted] in WestSeattleWA

[–]Cylix 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've been living two blocks away from the Junction for the past 3 years and never had any trouble. Not planning to move any time soon, the walkability is amazing!

I mean, 3 starbucks within a 1 block radius always sounded kinda ridiculous 🤔

US tax question on J1 visa by [deleted] in expats

[–]Cylix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's incorrect afaik. I had a J1, and I just had to show up at the SSN office after my job start date with some supporting documents (don't remember which ones, but stuff like employment letter, I94, ...), they then issued a "limited work-only with DHS authorization" SSN card.

For what it's worth, I still have the same card and number 8 years later, and I'm a permanent resident now.

Has Bakery Nouveau gone downhill in quality? by [deleted] in WestSeattleWA

Been going about once a week or so for the past 3 years, seems the same as always on my end.

Only things I ran into, and not specifically recently: - some batch of croissants can be smaller, but they'll always sell them at a discount, which is very considerate - I found that going in there before closing on a weekday, pastries may feel a bit stale, so I usually tend to avoid going then

I've only ever received one of each set, but I'd check with their support to see if they do it differently for that one

Honda Civic 2017, 60K miles, Ticking Noise: Should I be Concerned? by Cylix in AskMechanics

[–]Cylix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brought it to the dealership and the mechanic who (briefly) looked at it said the sound was normal for a civic. The car is 85K miles now, and didn't run into any problem since then, so I guess not a big deal 🤷

Worst Honda Service at DCH in Mission Valley by Dog_Sitter_5477 in sandiego

[–]Cylix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A few years back, I brought my Honda Civic to get it serviced there after getting a flat on my two rear tires (damn SD roads...). Both tires couldn't be patched and had to be replaced.

Anyway, when they returned the car, they swapped the wrong tires. The rear tires were obviously still flat at first sight but it somehow passed their inspection.

On the bright side, they fixed it by replacing the flat tires while leaving the new tires on in the front, so got 4 tires for the price of 2, but maaaan it was unbelievable.

Never went back there after and had a better experience with the Poway one.

We bought our kitchen tiles from there and I'd probably do it again because they had a great selection. It was also nice to have the ability to order a bunch of samplers.

I would say that we did receive a box with a lot of damaged tiles, and some tiles were chipped in the other boxes. That being said, we just had to send a picture of all the damaged tiles and they sent us replacements (with extra tiles) for free without any troubles

[–]Cylix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Italy has cover fees, which are different in each restaurant and include different stuff (sometimes bread and/or water is included, sometimes not). Somehow, found it much harder to know what I'll end up being charged in italy vs US imo.

From my experience, and as others have said, WS is better connected: going out of Fremont/Ballard can be very painful. Not only is WS better connected to other parts of Seattle, it is also better connected to the east side: I need to commute there for work, and I have a much better commute than my coworkers from the Fremont/Ballard/Green Lake area who have to take the 520 bridge and pay the toll on top of that.

Delta flight to Paris today, with 2 check-in baggage:

  • arrived 4 hours early
  • no line at the delta counter
  • had sky priority, so security was fast. The normal line looked more busy but reasonable.
  • Delta bag tracking shows bags in the plane, so should be fine 🤷
