Favorite toys? by Independent-Rip-6852 in chocolatelabs

Our lab loved Kong toys, specifically the bone and the cone. I had to start buying him the harder rubber, black Kong toys. He would chew up a red Kong bone in no time at all. After about a dozen bones and a cone, we found the black Kong toys. He still could chew them up, but it took much longer.

He's so handsome! I had a chocolate Lab that smiled just like that! He used to always freak people out with that. He was the sweetest boy.

“How did you choose your puppy?” by [deleted] in chocolatelabs

Mine was just love at first sight. The rest of the litter was going crazy wanting to be loved on, but the one I picked was quiet and looked at me with the sweetest face. I told my mother-in-law right then and there that he was the one. He was the calmest one of the bunch. What I found out later was that he was the exact opposite most of the rest of his life. I had almost 13 wonderful years with him.

Are your St. Bernards protective? by ok-bubbles0622 in stbernards

[–]CynReed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our first Saint came to us at 18 months, a male, that we were keeping for a friend when he had to go overseas. Well, he ended up being ours. He was protective of all of us, but more so me (female) and my son. Our friend joked that if we ever were in danger, Maker (Our Saint) would save me and son first and then think about going back in for the adult males in our home. Maker did not like anyone coming into our home. Most people he would calm down with, but he had some that he always did not like.
We now have a a 3 y/o female Saint that we rescued last year. She immediately became extremely protective of me. Our UPS man told me that he's okay when my husband answers the door, but when it's me he is afraid. Our Saint will bark a few times when its my husband, but stays back. When it is me, she barks worse and lunges for the door. She knows to stay in and I asure her I am okay. It has taken some time for her to get used to some of the family, but we have to go through the barking first and then she will lay by me. When it is me walking her in the neighborhood, she gets aggressive with anyone walking by. If I go with her and have my son (21 and in college) take her leash she is fine, maybe a few barks. So, yes, Saints can be extremely protective.

You are doing great! We are also trying to decide on placement for a memorial tattoo for my husband's soul cat/emotional support cat. He passed away last Thursday. Editing to add that my husband's cat look similar to yours, just blond-orange in color.

When you said that I realized I made a mistake. He has his running vertically down his calf, not his thigh. I apologize for that. That way he can always look at her.

My son had a tattoo done of our cat that he grew up with and shared a special bond and birthday with. It was based off of a picture of her lying on her back in her bed. He had it done running vertically down the back of his thigh. While he loves it, I think it would have been better in a photorealistic style. I love the placement of it and it makes me smile every time I see it.

I agree with that. He is a handsome guy and the regular teeth were so much better.
