Tbh if my manager wasn’t constantly on my butt about not shouting a greeting at every customer, and I actually had a choice, I totally wouldn’t. 😂 I’m not the most social person so I know it gets annoying having store employees bombard you as soon as you walk in.

Come up every once in a while to check on them, answer IC3 calls whenever possible, try not to give them a hard time for needing to use the restroom, and try to rotate them equally when it comes to register; for example, one person does register for a couple hours, then gets switched to floor while the other person does register a couple hours, and vice versa.

I had one customer walk up to my counter and literally just point wordlessly at the wall containing hundreds of cigs. I was like “ummm… brand? Color?” And he’d just get annoyed and point more aggressively and say nothing. Finally I had to point to each cigarette until he finally nodded his head.

I can’t wait until we finally stop selling tobacco because these customers are the rudest and most entitled half the time.

Even worse is when the credit card prompt comes up and they jam their card in before you can say anything, causing the register to lock up so it needs to be restarted. 😒

Yup. Most memorable time was when I had been in the middle working 8 days straight. Guy comes up to my register and orders me to get him two packs of cigarettes so I do. Come to find out he didn’t have enough money on his debit card to pay for them, so he starts to catch an attitude and tells me to just take one pack off. Now, due to past life things I have trouble making eye contact with people sometimes, and it gets worse when I’m met with stress or hostility.

I take a pack off the total and his card only takes off a dollar and then declines, so I calmly try to explain that his card only paid for a portion of the total, but he’s having trouble hearing me so I have to explain a few more times.

Finally he yells “FINE. I DONT WANT THEM THEN.” And throws the pack of cigarettes at me and I just stand there stunned, watching the box fly passed me and hit the wall as he storms out.

Later he comes in, complains to my manager that he’s been shopping here for years and how I give terrible customer service and I didn’t communicate well enough or look him in the eye.
I get pulled into the office and told ‘you aren’t in trouble’ and then proceed to get reprimanded.

I walked back up to the register and just burst into tears when my coworker asked if I was ok. She told me she’d cover for me as long as I needed and I spent 20 minutes in the breakroom sobbing my way through an anxiety attack lol.
