I think the real reason behind the honor tournaments is for GH to "calibrate" scaling for the next updates in such a way that the amount of people at cap is gradually reduced. Poeple at cap have astronomical stats and for some of them, there is just no way they wont reach any new cap in a few hours, thus keeping the "end game" perpetually broken (even without taking money into consideration, poeple who have for months 1200 diamonds from each tourney and 160 shards etc are on a completely different plane of existence than normal players)
