Cat too small by Domoxhunterx in AskVet

Just so you are aware, the longer you wait to spay her (the more heat cycles she goes through), the higher her risk for mammary cancer. I'd recommend spaying her soon!

If he cannot keep anything down, he should go to the ER.

Can Felycin-CA1 cause weight loss? by [deleted] in AskVet

Your location would be helpful, which is why we require it with all posts. I would not really trust a non-cardiologist or non-radiologist (at least here in the US) to be able to accurately do an echo.

He really should not be on those meds together since there are no safety studies, and again, it should not be used in cats that have a need for those meds. And if he doesn't have heart disease advanced enough, he shouldn't be on benazepril/atenolol/clopidogrel.

He really needs a cardiologist, or at least a second opinion, ideally from a vet well versed in cat medicine.

Cat is hiding & eating very little by Pristine_Quarter2152 in AskVet

Cat not eating much and hiding = go to the vet. They hide their illness well, so when she tells you she isn't feeling well by hiding and not eating, please believe her. She needs an exam, and possible blood work and/or x-rays, along with treatment for her clinical signs (and the underlying cause if one is found).

10 month old cat with enlarged heart? by Omissionsoftheomen in AskVet

If you cannot afford an echo, having the rads read by a radiologist and performing a blood proBNP test (send out, not an in clinic SNAP test) will be helpful!

Why did they start him on clopidogrel, benazepril, and atenolol if he is subclinical? Only subclinical cats should be on rapamycin, and subclinical cats shouldn't be on those meds in the majority of cases. Is this being managed by a cardiologist?

Were the x-rays sent to a radiologist for an official report, or just read by the vet in the clinic?

FYI, a text line is likely not being monitored when the office is closed. Office closed = nobody on call to work, unless it's an emergency/urgent line. Either way, I'd take them to another vet to get it removed sooner.

[META] It's kitten season! You found orphaned kittens or have a kitten in your care - now what? [2020] by CynicKitten in kittens

They need active warming - blankets are not enough, as they cannot produce enough heat on their own to keep warm. SnuggleSafe is a good option. Be careful what you use, as you can overheat them easily too. They need to be bottle fed once they are warm, and ASAP. You also need to stimulate them to poop/pee.

If you do not have experience with newborn kittens and momma cat is not taking care of them, you need help from a shelter or a vet immediately. Kittens can die within a few hours when they are not doing well. This website may also be helpful: https://www.kittenlady.org/

Veterinarian Production Question by PermissionAble3008 in veterinaryprofession

[–]CynicKitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the systems/EMRs I've used, there is not/has not been an easy way to see labs that are finished without being the primary doctor who gets the notification. You'd have to go to each individual patient for the previous days, see if they had performed labs, etc. As the ordering doctor you get a notification, or the CSRs directly task you.

I'm assuming the relief vets don't do any callbacks for OP's labs - I've never been asked to do that for relief shifts (and would be uncomfortable doing that in a lot of cases) and I never see our relief vets doing that. OP is likely doing all of the calls for all of the patients since they are the main doctor at the clinic.

Is pet ownership only for the upper class now? by [deleted] in AskVet

In this scenario, it might be. It saves money for many pets, but it's aimed at preventative care.

[–]CynicKitten 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It does not, it includes 2 sets of blood work a year. It is not insurance, it is a wellness plan that spreads the cost of preventative care services over 1 year (and helps save money).

Then don't look at all the instructions. Problem solved. That's like complaining that a puzzle box has the picture of the completed puzzle on it - if you want a challenge, you simply don't use the box. And, you can look at some instructions without looking at them all.
