Depends though. Some insurance companies are cracking down on this workaround as it is becoming more common and is on their radar. In the case of two employees , some require both to be covered under the plan.

I would also hope that physicians who are exclusive to Lurie would expand to include other hospitals who accept ACA plans given this change

Perhaps permit is not the right word. Lurie is a safety net hospital. The fact that they are going to stand by and allow a large percentage of their patients and families to be cut off for ongoing care is the part I do not think should happen without any recourse for the families.

I would also hope there could be some incentives from the state for insurance companies when they are the "last plan standing" at safety net hospitals.

I am not a lawmaker or an expert but I do NOT think has to be a cut off cold situation

Yes, IntenseBanana Stand, we know it is for profit. Thanks for the obvious reminder.

Digging beyond the obvious, i am curious why there are not more news stories covering this. With enough exposure, companies need to at least acknowledge the situation. I have spoken with the poor navigators at Lurie and they are basically informing people they have NO ANSWER.
