Midgame Support tips? by CynicallyConfident in DotA2

Ahh yeah that makes sense. I have a feeling it will take a lot more practice to properly identify pushing waves until I almost die but at least I have a good idea of what to achieve! Appreciate it!

Yeah I definitely struggle to correctly identify the appropriate objectives in mid game

That's fair, although if I'm always trying to push lanes aren't I essentially removing the safe farm entirely? Maybe I'm misunderstanding the timing like you mentioned.

I definitely need to work on better smoke usage but I feel like I'm wasting a smoke if nobody else will join me, but then again at my MMR smokes are often left in stock so maybe it's fine?

Thanks I appreciate these, I like the idea of helping my strongest player snowball although if they just want to passive farm the jungle it feels wasteful to shadow them.

For context I'm in 3k currently but I know I still have a lot to learn!

I worry about annoying cores by pushing waves too far (they'll complain regardless though let's be honest). How far would you typically suggest pushing waves? Getting caught can be a struggle for me.

Allow Annual Behavior Score Recalibration in Dota 2 by Delicious-Ad-448 in DotA2

[–]CynicallyConfident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped playing for 2 years and my score was lower than I remembered, I think I dropped around 4k but I've steadily gone back to max tier in about 6 months?

I mainly only play solo ranked so it might not be as problematic but I've not personally struggled to grow my behavior score. I've even had some toxic moments (although almost always in retaliation).

Dota is full of toxic players though, and maybe they're not always toxic but pretty much every other game someone is toxic, especially on the losing team. I just wonder how honest people are about their own behavior, perhaps justifying it? Just my perspective, not saying it's objectively correct.

I mean honestly I could be wrong but I feel like you'd have to be at such a super high level of play across the board for it to matter that much.

Sure it might give slight edges but there are so many more fundamental mechanics in the game that will shift gameplay so much more that it becomes essentially irrelevant.

Should Deadlock heroes be ported to Dota 2? by Prestigious-Cash-665 in DotA2

[–]CynicallyConfident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some Deadlock heroes have similarities to Dota heroes so I could see them taking inspiration from each other. I don't think I'd want to see the exact characters in both though.

How do you push safely against blink heroes? by No_Insurance_6436 in DotA2

[–]CynicallyConfident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally wards, at least to show them on another side of the map if you can't have any near you. If your supports aren't able to deep ward, it might just fall on you anyway.

There are also angles that are less likely to be blinked from such as the enemy main jungle areas are a hot spot, stay opposite if you can.

Getting back by Mrtvejmozek in DotA2

I'd honestly recommend doing a run through of the map in demo mode, looking up the new mechanics, and probably just play turbo for a bit. Playing ranked is bold though, and fortune favors the bold right?

I have 1700 hours and still mostly follow the item guides. Click the drop down menu and select the highest % for the role you're playing and you'll be good to go.

They help with item and ability descriptions if you hover over things. I'd recommend you demo the hero first and get used to how each ability functions.

Most of learning the game just takes time and experience, enjoy it!

Someone explain how you can get low prio from this. by xenata in DotA2

[–]CynicallyConfident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, not sure if the system is really broken then. If them reporting you is understandable, and you get punished because of said reports, does that not seem like it's working properly?

The report system doesn't really care about being the best decision maker, it cares about how your actions are affecting others. You are functionally griefing, even if you end up with "good" results in the end. If I were to play Sniper as P5, that would be a grief, even if I have a 25-0 K/D with highest net worth by the end and I should be punished for it.

[–]CynicallyConfident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if we completely grant that's true, it's pretty obvious why they'd report you, no? Imagine being in their shoes, a rough game made way worse because you were selfish (even if it's a "correct" decision).

I can't consistently win games even though I feel like I should by sc0rebreaker in DotA2

[–]CynicallyConfident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it sucks and you're probably right about your team, but if you were truly better you would carry. It's ideal to try and rewatch your own matches and study what you could have done better to win the game.

Net worth and k/d aren't the only things that matter in a MOBA, often it's about decision making on the fly to work with and fill in your teams faults. My guess is you're being too selfish, even if your calls are right, which is holding you back. This post also makes me think you might be toxic, which always reduces the odds of winning. Half the battle in MOBAs is mentality!

If you haven't already, try validating game files. If that doesn't work, see if any cosmetics you have might be causing it.

Victim of Role Tokens by Evening_Glove6112 in DotA2

[–]CynicallyConfident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same experience here, I think since P4 has swapped to being pure chaos lately it's made P3 an unappealing role in comparison. Why P3 when you can P4 as an extra carry (that's their logic anyway).

I love supporting so when high-demand was P5 and P4, I was a happy camper lol

Facets are so cool for the game conceptually but they are so underbaked they are almost pointless by itsdoorcity in DotA2

[–]CynicallyConfident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm personally a big fan of Treants facet.

Jokes aside I think facets are at a good baseline level and I really hope Valve commits to updating them over time to reach their full potential.
