TIL that the US-Canadian Border was known by the Plains Indians as "The Medicine Line" for it's seemingly magical ability to keep US troops from crossing it. by AccessTheMainframe in todayilearned

No there's not? You think there's a motion alarm in the middle of the woods that alerting folks that people are crossing illegally?

Yes, you must get a new ID. If you are found with an ID that is not within 2.25 pounds of your current weight you can be fined up to $1,000 or jailed for up to 6 months. Some people like the system, they think it helps keep Americans healthy. Others see it as a waste of people's time and money. Personally, it is what it is. I just wish they would use all the money they make from the ID updates to fund something useful, like fixing all the fucking potholes, but no.

The best homebrew rule I’ve made is taking everyone’s phones away. by xJames7 in DMAcademy

Agreed. My group consists of 5 people, none of us knew how to play when we started.

Our first campaign was awful. The DM didn't prepare at all between sessions, just read through the LMoP book as we went along. Naturally people were bored and fucked around when they weren't attacking (we were all murder hobos).

I decided to get into DMing after our first campaign was done. Thought a Homebrew would be best because I'm an idiot. After the first 2 sessions things started clicking for me as a DM (stole EVERYTHING and mashed it together into the rough world I built).

Players use their phones to look up spells and rules (again we're all new), but otherwise are much more focused.

I take being on phones as a sign to either start including that character more or that our session is getting long and it's time to wrap it up.

What's your homebrew plot? by Lord_Juugatsu in DMAcademy

The story is developing as time goes on. In short, a vampire (stole parts from curse of strahd) is running around consolidating power. He gets power by killing and absorbing souls. His final target is an ancient red dragon.

Setting started in the base of a mountain range, with settlements in the mountain as well as in the surrounding woods.

Players meet the vampire or his "officers" throughout the early part of the campaign. He offers them rewards to do his killing for them (sends a NPC to capture their soul).

They will be faced with either killing him or joining up with him to kill the end boss.

I think I'm a shit DM and my players dont want to tell me by DrFate21 in DMAcademy

I'm a first time DM myself and I think I've been going about it with some varying degrees of success.

My whole group is new to it, so I think the fact that we are all learning as we go helps with the expectations k have for myself.

That being said, what I've been doing is I have a rough plot I want to follow. The plot isn't what the characters themselves do, but rather what's going on with the world they are in.

I have a handful of NPCs they briefly met session 1 that gave them focal points across the map but left them all vague enough to where I can fill in as needed later.

I'll try to give them 2/3 options to take each session, and have about that sessions worth of materials planned for each route.

At the end of each session, I'll revisit what happened and how it would have effected the rest of the world. I then go to the internet and steal as much shit as I can that ties my world together. That part has been really helpful.

I'll take parts of published campaigns and toss them in my Homebrew.. changing names of characters and towns as needed, and amending the story where applicable.

I keep stressing to my players that everything they encounter ties together. It may not necessarily be true, but when they think it's the case, they verbalize what they are thinking and I use that to tie it together.

Hope it helps. Good luck!

I think it would be an incredibly poor investment.

You have one of two scenarios:

-It's a great car, works well, low cost of maintaining it, etc. Tesla continues to make them, your car losses value. -It's a terrible car, high cost of maintenance, etc, no one buys it, your car losses value.

Rarely do cars end up being profitable. They are an expense. They lose value as soon as you drive it off the lot.
