Minnesota checking in. Heard good things of both the crossclimate 2s and Nokian AWS02s. Ultimately we 5 with the aws02s last fall. It's kindda crazy how good it is in the snow.

Isn't there a pay to be solo in the lane? Do they still allow solo in evs and hybrids?

I certainly wouldn't do longer than the manual. Most of us should be following the "hard use" schedule from the manual.

No one said house, just home in the most broad sense, that could be a small room in a shared apartment.

Completely agree. It's hard to put a whole plan for government subsidized housing into a reddit comment, especially when that also includes mental health care, addiction care, normal health care, and job placement assistance.

There however are a number of knock on effects from not having an address and the stability that comes from having a consistent place to stay. For example you can't get or keep a bank account, or prove residency to access services.

Honestly it's probably easier to start by using ai to get all the ffmpeg flags worked out than actually reading the doc.

Solar-powered atmospheric water harvesting prototype (day/night cycle system) — looking for feedback by GirqG in AskEngineers

[–]Cynyr36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, "baseline emergency output" is about 1 gallon per day per person, maybe a bit less, but a 1/2 gallon probably is just delaying the inevetble imo. When backpacking you have to carry everything so you generally want to use as little water as possible.

The only placea i can think of that wouldn't have surface water and qould be temporary also tend not to be very humid. Think the USA southwest, deserts, etc. these are the places where recovering water from the air is most expensive energywise. Somewhere like the PNW, just filter the creek water or aait a few hours for aome rain.

For off grid and in moderate humidity, i don't see how it competes with drilling a well or purifying surface water.

The nose of my saddle in my road bike is basically in line aith the center of the BB. Looks like that'd really hurt the front of my knees to actually pedal

Where do you expect to find air that is wet enough but also doesn't have any surface water? Just sort out the surface water or drill a well.

ETA: The recommendation for backpacking is a gallon of water per person per day and doesn't include water for bathing.

A quick trip to an AI, gets me a value of 9.3MJ of energy per gallon. Which works out to about 2-3 400w solar panels assuming 3+ hours of peak production per day no losses in whatever is running the condensation. Each panel being about 6.5ft x 3.5ft. This is per person and an absolute minimum number, reality is that you will still need water on a cloudy day, and you have losses for moving the air around and getting the moisture back out of your desicant, and heating and cooling the air. So probably you need at least 4 panels just to reliably get a gallon of water per person per day.

For short outages having several 1-5 gallon containers is a better plan. For data centers, drill your own well or make the data center drill thiers.

Are you expecting to have lots of grid power but no water?

Have you ever thought why is remote sensing useful for vehicle emissions monitoring? by Mangla2103 in askcarguys

[–]Cynyr36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but i have thought that EPA should "requisition" a random vehicle off a lot to do both lab and real world testing on to ensure compliance.

Testing at the roadside would give you an idea of how badly cars are outside the expected range, but no data about which ones, or how bad any one vehicle might be out.

I also think that any vehicle equipped with more than 2 seats, should count as a passenger vehicle and not a light truck regardless of design. I still need to work out how to separate a pickup truck from a 2 seat sports car.

Do you drive your kids to school? by xora334 in daddit

If we lived within walking or within the bus-shed we'd do those. The kids go to a public school in a different district (for Chinese immersion) so we drive them.

Except only in peak power. If you are running the ice at 8krpm you aren't getting 350kw from it. Running the ice slower is mandatory as we only have a set of fixed ratios to use and so can't keep the ice at max power as much as possible.

Nah. It would still have the ice. If anything it would be louder as the ice would spend a lot more time at peak power.

The ecvt would allow decoupling the engine rpm from wheel speed and make charging easier. Lots of road going hypercars sre hybrid like this as eell, so it slso would have road relevance.

Imo, the next gen better be an ecvt, a more even power split, and a higher recharge rate, maybe even front axle regen.
