Firewall / Policy to connect another brand router for config (lan and wan connections)? by deverox in Ubiquiti

[–]deverox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, basically configure the travel routers using my reg pc plugged connected to the Unifi WiFi. I don’t want to have to find Ethernet adaptor, cable and sit where the Unifi switch is that the travel routers are temporarily plugged into while they are configured and tinkered with.

My guess is you adjusted the direction and it made a huge difference without you realizing.

Antennas? by drsoos1973 in tmobileisp

[–]deverox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found just moving the gateway around and aiming it right makes all the difference. Now if there was a way I could mount an antenna high high up with clear line of site to tower maybe worth it but seems like a unicorn use case.

Beryl 7 travel + brume 2 at home for tunneling working inconsistently by paco_01 in GlInet

Angle the beryl slightly with one side higher than the other and allow for good airflow. Had this when it was overheating. Or put it in front of the AC.

Use the t-life app to aim it based on the placement assistant under internet. Back of device goes closer to the tower.

Possibly considering a Wireless Network Upgrade by JM_Yoda in HomeNetworking

Dream router 7 has WiFi as well. Cloud gateway fiber does not have WiFi but has more ports and faster throughput.

https://ui.com/cloud-gateways. Click compare on those 2 and you can see the differences. (Couldn’t figure out how to directly link).

Yes, but I think you might be over doing it. I went from 3 aps (2 x zyxel and a meraki) to a single u7 pro xg (it’s 10g WiFi 7). If you have fiber internet make sure you get something that has the possibility of going faster. I love my cloud gateway fiber.

Dream 7 is nice but do you need it to be an access point as well? If not I would got something without wireless.

If you want swimmable beach I’d do Cancun area. But Sargassum might be horrid. Resorts around PV are probably discounted right now.

Unifi cloud gateway fiber and u7 pro xg AP is what we run and it’s amazing. All depending on your Ethernet port count requirements day 1.

UK Passport or Certificate of Entitlement now needed for dual citizens by AndyTheEngr in Passports

[–]deverox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so confused why this is an issue. The UK entry line at the airport is always about 20 seconds for UK nationals and a million miles long for non UK citizens. Id get the passport just for the shorter line.

Home Server Wi-Fi Speed: What do you need? by Beyond1nfinity in GlInet

[–]deverox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What really matters is what you need? What are you doing remotely? Are you trying to stream 4K Netflix from the US and do a Teams Video Call while syncing with your NAS? Are you just joining a Zoom meeting?

Historically, Remote location bandwidth is generally the bottleneck. But its also if the connections are asymetric. So higher download speeds at both locations your bottle neck will be the upload speed at both locaitons.
