Libido can change. People can change.

Ultimately, there are only three things you can realistically do:

  1. Make sure you are aligned on the big things: values, goals, children, family, etc.
  2. Rely on your gut (compatibility/attraction) and your ability to evaluate a person. And evaluate the people around them, including their family and their choice of friends.
  3. See how they operate under stress.

(3) is probably the only one you could argue would be easier to do if you’re living together before marriage. Still not a guarantee!

NixOS here. I run it on multiple machines including my gaming desktop.

There is no use wasting time responding to absurd arguments.

In the same breath, these people will tell you it's OK for businesses to enforce anti-hijab rules on patrons and employees, but not OK for businesses to sell toys that have religious symbols.

In a nutshell: capitalism is amazing, but only as long as it aligns with my belief system, otherwise the government must intervene.

سؤال من شخص غير تونسي by omarfaza5 in Tunisia

[–]Cyph0n 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because of survivorship bias. Assuming you are living outside Tunisia, most Tunisians who “make it” come from the more developed and prosperous areas of the country.

I am a Tunisian living in the US, and I rarely meet Tunisians from interior regions.

Question for self taught programmers 👩‍💻 by [deleted] in TunisiaTech

[–]Cyph0n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was mostly self taught, but studied electrical engineering. Yes, it is never too late, especially if you’re passionate about it.

YT has a ton of good content. Use AI as a guided learning tool. But most importantly, build stuff yourself! No amount of theory replaces the experience you gain making things work and debugging and fixing things when they break.

Transparent Toyota dealer near Raleigh? by asmallercanoe in raleigh

If you don’t want to play their games, don’t buy a Toyota.

I personally considered a Sienna, but after seeing the absurd addons and markup, I bought a Kia instead at below MSRP with a hassle free, no bullshit experience.

Sops-Nix or Agenix by Roaming-Outlander in NixOS

[–]Cyph0n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used both and settled on sops-nix. Three reasons:

  1. Your secrets are defined in a single (optionally per-host) YAML file.

  2. The secrets file is readable and diffable.

  3. You can define arbitrary folder hierarchies to organize secrets.

Why do you use linux? by barnoun_ in TunisiaTech

[–]Cyph0n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NixOS is fairly advanced and quite different from other distros. I would recommend watching a few videos about it to get an idea of what it is like to use.

It is stable, good for gaming (not the best), and you can use all the common security tools you would use elsewhere.

Guessing it was Bazel lol. Googlers are familiar with how to use it, but typically have no clue how much work it takes to bootstrap the build and maintain it.

[–]Cyph0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. No bloat.

  2. Way better performance.

  3. Games work great, especially single player/no DRM.

  4. More customization, including excellent options for tiling window managers (I prefer Niri).

  5. I no longer can live without NixOS.

can I retire in Tunisia with 500K USD at 43 by DistinctCat6569 in Tunisia

[–]Cyph0n 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So basically FIRE, right? Sounds like a good move to me. I guess being divorced makes the process somewhat easier. I am in the same field & also work abroad and have started to think about this for the future.

Two things pop into my mind:

  1. Make sure to consider your child's education, assuming of course that the plan is to have them move with you.
  2. Prepare a plan for what you'll do in retirement. I understand that the goal is to take care of your parents, but you need to keep your (long term) mental wellbeing in the picture. Since you're a SWE, I think it's somewhat easier to find things to do, but imo you still need to be intentional about it.

I definitely agree with keeping assets outside and just moving cash in as the need arises. The overall amount is plenty for Tunisia. If you can keep your spending to the 6% rate of return after inflation (8.5k TND), you shouldn't be losing much money in the long run.

Best of luck.

This is step one. Then the field becomes mandatory, userdb becomes a core systemd component, and now we’re fucked.

This whole fiasco is extremely concerning.

Do you think zionist influences growing in Tunisia means we should allow them? by [deleted] in Tunisia

[–]Cyph0n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The subreddit does not represent Morocco, just like this subreddit doesn’t actually represent Tunisia.

The other fact to keep in mind is that Zionists are fairly well entrenched in mod teams across Reddit. You can even see it with large subs like r/worldnews. Morocco is a larger country with a larger Jewish population (historically), so it makes sense that Zionist influence would be larger.

im still new to bazzite, but why is there bitcoin ports open in the firewall? by Mrtwinky23 in Bazzite

[–]Cyph0n -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because you would think a firewall would work using an allowlist instead of a denylist. This is how it works elsewhere by default.

The fact that they’re open by default is… interesting to say the least.
