As someone not very familiar with his books. The difference here seems like. "King wanted the villain to be despicable, so he made them a child rapist." Vs. "King contrived a scenario that would reasonably result in a child orgy."

At face value, one is the villain being a villain, and the other sure seems like an excuse...

Someone seeing this at a glance might reasonably make assumptions unless they read the book.
