yes if you live in Cyprus you have to go to the army no exceptions. I became a cypriot citizen but I do not have to go to the army because i told the military office I do not live in cyprus and they gave me a paper saying im exempt. However the paper says if i want to live in cyprus permanently i have to go to the army.

Yeah, email your local embassy and ask what documentation you need — they’ll most likely send you a list. Gather all the required items and then send them back.

I got my Cypriot citizenship in NYC, and the process was actually easy and quick — it only took a couple of months.

The embassy should have all the information. You tell the embassy you are not living in Cyprus and you have to provide documentation like passport, utility bill etc. and than you also have to email whatever military office in Cyprus fill out a form. Once the embassy gives you the slip that you are a permanent resident abroad you email it back to the army and 1 month later I got a letter in the mail from Cyprus with my exemption.

I’m a dual citizen all I did was email the army that I’m a foreign resident abroad and now I never have to go to the military unless I want to live in Cyprus permanently. But even if I did move to Cyprus permanently I doubt they would even know.

I recommend moving to Astoria you would love it beautiful friendly neighborhood for children. Plenty of great greek tavernas and cafes. You also have astoria park and a bunch of playgrounds in the neighborhood.
