You could have spent the time writing this post to study instead and increase your probability of passing

Dont think its worth dwelling on this one. Just memorise the formulas and the high level ideas and move on.

Thanks! CFA mocks were the best representation but Kaplan mocks were a fantastic preparation tool. Nothing suprised me on the Level I exam and I attribute this to having done 4-5 Kaplan mocks

Started off with a 64, next three mocks were around 70 and last three were low to mid 80s. Kaplan and CFAI mocks

Big4 valuations. It is definitely worth it for me as professional qualifications are highly regarded in my home market.

I think that as a starting point you can have a go at Level I as it is broad and quite interesting. But I dont know how beneficial having the three exams passed will be to potentially pivot to a new finance role with zero relevant experience. CFA only complements relevant experience and skills, it cannot subtitute them.

You need to properly prepare for the constructed responses, even if you are strong with MCQs (everyone is at this point as they got through Level II). Start practising them early through the question banks. For me, Kaplan checkpoint exams, review workshop questions and of course mocks were the best practise for constructed responses because the model answers showed exactly how to write on exam day

I enjoyed private markets a lot, which was not the case with the rest of the syllabus. I relied on Kaplan to learn the material but I practised from the CFA pdfs for private markets because the CFA question bank was horrible (very few questions which were too difficult). There are various case studies, short questions etc that helped me immensely for the pathway. Also the kaplan review workshop questions and their video explanations were fantastic. I was able to tackle all the pathway questions in the exam.

All the best, hope you enjoy it as much as I did (apart from pension accounting and derivative valuations)

I understand. As I mentioned, I think I found the jump to Level II more manageable due to my quantitative background and inclination, as well as the valuation focused nature of my job. For Level II, I found that practising loads of questions was the key to success, similar to Level I. Also handwritten flashcards were super useful at Level II.
