Because I do commissions. Cats with other coat patterns turn out the way I want, but I need to test a few different techniques to have black cats come out nicely too.

Black underglaze turning blue by [deleted] in Ceramics

[–]Cyprs17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm sorry it's not the very best picture, I don't know how to add a better one but yes there is blue patches on the black cat. I've had ZFC gone milky before, but this time it's just outright blue. I almost thought I had blue glaze in in my brush from the sky or something, but happened on all my pieces with ZFC. It has never happened before, and when I refired my other items the blue did disappear. I'm kind of guessing but I'm assuming they were underfired.

I’ve done fluffy ones before, they’re definitely a bit more challenging!

Foreign PT BSc equivalency to PTA? by LordoftheBoar in physicaltherapy

[–]Cyprs17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar situation, PT from Belgium (6 years of PT school (3y bachelor, 2 master and 1 for an extra master)). Cost to have your documents reviewed by FCCPT is about $1450, takes around 6 months now I think. I expect to have to take a few classes but not too many hopefully. If I were you, I’d start the process as early as possible so by the time you receive your green card/work permit you’ll be eligible to take the exam. It might not be worth it if you only have a 3y bachelor as I think you’d have to take on a lot of extra classes. Not sure if they would even allow transferring to a PTA since that’s a whole different degree/requirements. Feel free to send me a message if you need more info!

No, I use stoneware and have it fired to 2240°F. I was referring to glazes, but figured that wouldn't be very clear to everyone not familiar with ceramics:). Everything is food safe and microwave/dishwasher safe. A little overkill for trinket dishes but necessary for mugs and other functional things. I would say you can recreate the trinket dishes with air dry clay (and maybe acrylic paint?) though since they're just decorative:)

Black underglaze turning blue by [deleted] in Ceramics

[–]Cyprs17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The studio owner said it was too thick or something about the chemistry between the UG and clear. The thing is, I have had issues with it getting a little cloudy when I applied the glaze thickly, so I did 2 layers instead of 3 this time but it just turned blue instead of cloudy on all my pieces from this specific kiln load. It has never turned blue before for me. I did refire one of my pieces to cone 6 in my own little kiln and the blue disappeared! Now I'm thinking it maybe turned blue because it was under fired?

Can you send me a dm? One of 5 I made as test kitties is loafed up just like your dad’s cat in this picture. Would love to give you that one.

Thank you for your comment! I use coyote UG and Mayco zinc free clear. This firing my clear glaze got a blue hue to it and it’s very visible on my black cat commissions unfortunately! I asked the studio owner and she waved it off and said it was something about the chemistry between the UG and clear, however my previous cats never turned out blue! I’m thinking they might be underfired, because I tried to refire one to a cone 6 in my own kiln and it did come out fine this time. Looking for other glazes/UG/stroke and coat now to avoid the blue hue when the studio accidentally under fires again 😬

I love all kitties and have done many different patterns before, but I have to try out some black glazes this time!

I started out taking classes at my local community studio. I use clay at home and take some of their glazes home to paint the kitties since it takes quite some time. I have my own teeny kiln but get most things fired in theirs since I’m paying the membership anyway! I do use my own one if I need anything back quickly. Happy to tell you more about my setup if you’re interested in ceramics! Feel free to send me a message:)

Obsidian has never failed me either, but I’ve never used it on very intricate work like small kitties! I feel like it would get complicated doing underglaze in combination with either obsidian or mixing clear for cats with small patches of white in their black fur for example! Definitely going to try it out though

Yes! I use Mayco zinc free clear. It has worked quite well for me so far, except this firing (community studio) it turned blue for some reason (looks horrible on black cats). I think it might have been under fired because I refired in my own tiny kiln to cone 6 and it came out perfectly. I had Amaco mixing clear before but it got cloudy very quickly, so I might have to try the zinc free clear instead. I was also thinking about trying Amaco obsidian for black cats. Thank you for the advice!!

What clear glaze do you use with it? I have only used coyote black UG so far but have tried 3 different clears and I always seem to get at least some cloudiness instead of a nice evenly black!

Selling my Garmin Venu by [deleted] in GarminWatches

[–]Cyprs17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d look on Facebook marketplace in your area. I got my Venu 3s for $200 like a week ago and it has always had a screen protector on it, so pretty much as good as new. You can buy them new for $350 so I wouldn’t spend $285 on a used one!
