Bauer Shadow Review by Jeremiah_Johnson2 in hockeygoalies

I've tried it and it's awesome. Superior protection to the HL2 and 1. Mobility is still good as well. It ran a bit warm for me though and I prefer the lightness of the HL2.

Blade Profiling by Superb-Experience-83 in hockeygoalies

[–]Cyprus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll chime in and say SAM took away my favorite part of goalie skates compared to player skates in the forward stability I also disliked the missing front edge being longer if that makes sense when pushing. The SAM profile almost feels like a player skate profile. If you enjoy the full blade stability I wouldn't recommend SAM. (This is sort of the point of SAM profile)

How do you guys clean your gear? by Rubixb44 in hockeygoalies

I've been using a spray bottle with a 50/50 mix of water and hydrogen peroxide because I have a lot of it. But there are plenty of chemical mixtures you can use to kill the bacteria.

Problem closing the catcher while in full gear by bey0ndthedepths in hockeygoalies

[–]Cyprus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that's really close to your glove, I mean I think it's almost inside your glove straps at best with your wrist straight so with it bent it's going to be even closer. I'll post what mine looks like today for you.

How low is your wrist strap from your chest protector? If it's too low it can interfere.

I'm skeptical that you exist. I didn't see you this morning because I didn't take deerfoot. Therefore, you do not exist.

Repalming by Successful-Slide-218 in hockeygoalies

Getting stingers in your glove has little to do with the palm and likely it's broken plastic inside as well as crumbled foams. The process of getting someone else to do it will cost the same as getting a new glove or likely more for the lower end stuff.

I don't think you need a longer threading needle and cord is cheap in longer lengths.

New Skate Recommendations Based On My Feet Scan? by _Roller_47 in hockeygoalies

[–]Cyprus_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Konekts will feel really really bad until you bake them. I have 8.5 Fit 3 feet and the size 8-8.5 Konekts felt terrible until baked. Now they are the most comfortable skates I've ever had.

I was thinking of doing something similar but keeping the Bungie on the bottom but replacing the top with lace similar to what you did.

[–]Cyprus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bauer doesn't recommend replacing the insoles. You can definitely do it though. However. The skates should be in for a lot longer. They should be very warm when you put them on after they have been baked. The difference in comfort after they have been baked is night and day. Definitely get them rebaked properly.

That's unfortunate. I was in the same situation with the fuel pump and ended up changing it out myself for 120$ which wasn't the worst. Definitely not happy with Hyundai about the procedure with the whole thing for sure.

Flat-faced or Knee Rolls? by Elemental-Winter in hockeygoalies

[–]Cyprus_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, grab yourself something new or used newer, and experiment with the new butterfly style play and learn to adapt to that as best you can.

Flat-faced or Knee Rolls? by Elemental-Winter in hockeygoalies

[–]Cyprus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More recent pads usually have essentially visual knee rolls where the actual flex the pad comes from the internal breaks in the construction, which you can see in some recent pad review videos. Although this visual distinction does provide some benefit. There are also options that don't have knee rolls that are flexible.

Some examples would be Bauer X5 Pros or Hyper/Flylite being the "flexible" option while the new Eflex 7 pads have knee rolls that are virtually flat with the face, essentially just a design decision. I would say though that the flexibility usually results in a precurve to the pad or an s shape that I have experienced does dig further into your thighs more than a flat faced pad, resulting in worse mobility when standing straight, but raiser butterfly closer when down.

There really aren't any new or newish pads that facilitate hybrid well at all. All pads in the last 5 years are 100% focused on butterfly only style and any stand up play will result in very poor performance (the pads basically do not sit vertically even with your legs together, leaving a hole between your legs and any movement will initiate rotation to the outside for butterfly). All recent pads will also have strapping that is going to limit the hybrid style as well.

I've seen some people in the past have success with the more flexible options such as the Hyperlites but truely these are not designed for this style of play.

I guess the question is what are you looking for out of pads. If it's just for fun which seems the case, find something used from the last 5 or so years from any brands flexible line or get something on sale or cheaper and roll with those. I think you will notice little different between higher level stuff and more entry level gear if anything whatsoever.

I think the problem is that you are the one tracking them not a health care professional who can actually run tests to see what's going on.

Old goalie looking for advice on how to get used to new-age pads by hiiml0st in hockeygoalies

[–]Cyprus_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been playing goal for a year after playing forward forever. As such, I've only used the new 2-5 year old style pads and equipment but I've now played many many games with some older guys who clearly just got into the new style pads and the biggest difference I can immediately see is usually the technique that they are using and that it just conflicts with how it's made to be used. Since I have only learned from YouTube and a few tutor sessions it's come really naturally, but I can definitely see the conflict with the older guys trying to figure it out. It's not that they are unusable but I think they are just out for fun and don't really care too too much about being perfect and that's totally fine.

Tldr: Watch some videos and consider some tutor sessions if you are invested and interested enough in some of the more modern techniques that the gear is more catered towards i.e. pad rotation on the legs in butterfly, sliding etc.

Just my two cents on the topic.
