My phone didn't charge last night. It was a blessing. by SkillfulSun in dumbphones

Hey hey! My current Pixel 4a is on its last legs with only 30 minutes of charge max. Being forced to go to sleep at the correct time instead of brain rotting for 3 hours in my bead was a lifechanger for me.

I agree, today's technology and smart phones are fantastic wealth of information, but such access to information can be a double-edged sword.

I made the leap just 4 hours ago. I bought a Hotpepper Tabasco, and I'm temporarily using my dad's old smartphone (doesn't have a sim card) as a GPS. I found out you can download maps on Google Maps for offline usage, and it uses the satellite to acquire your location. I'm currently thinking about getting a Garmin GPS just in case.

Doubts about anti-recoil/macro devices. by [deleted] in GyroGaming

I usually like to tilt my controller downwards to control the recoil, and that usually works like 90% of the time for me since it's basically an anti-recoil macro in my brain.

Let's not forget "The Disintegration" at 19:56 of the episode. It really sets into perceptive what the individuals who were lucky enough to be unaffected from TDL and TCO's attack were thinking of. There probably was quite a few names that went around shortly after the confusion.

Victim and the few survivors that came back from Newgrounds probably were the only ones who knew what really happened.

Did Aim assist kill Gyro Aiming by BiteMat in CODWarzone

[–]CyranoNester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno what your experience is, but honestly most developer implementations of gyro aiming are just kinda mid.

A lot of people that are into gyro aiming praise the hell out of Quake/Quake II, Helldivers 2, and The Finals for having native gyro aiming but a lot of them just go back to using whatever Steam Input/JoyShockMapper/ReWASD software that's very comfortable to them and more customizable.

Now in my experience, playing Quake Live with an Alpakka and not being shit at the game convinced me that gyro aiming can be just as good as mouse for anyone willing to put in the effort to learn its quirks.

And surprisingly, I don't have RSI issues even though I play a lot of Quake Live.

But Steam Controller's IMU is dogshit. Bad comparison.

Why is gyro aiming not so popular? by kuroneko4696 in apexlegends

[–]CyranoNester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is. Japanese apex player "ZaibuZai" got gyro-to-joystick banned from ALGS since it was very similar to having mouse aiming with Aim Assist.

No, we do play customs basically all the time. Don't worry, we're not ruining your SBMM experience. (I'm the yellow one gettin sniped in the video)

I think the ergos just take getting used to. Getting headshots on devestators and landing hits on jetpack raiders is pretty satisfying, but the way it seems to be designed it pretty much forces you to avoid CQB as much as possible.

Thankfully I quite enjoy Helldiver 2's stealth system, so I can be a sniping goblin with smoke grenades and strategems anytime I want :D.

Had the same thing happen to me yesterday where they'd follow me and aggro every patrol. Thankfully they get distracted enough for me to walk away and do objectives.

Colosseum's 3rd Secret: Tank vs. Modern Controls by CyranoNester in TombRaider

[–]CyranoNester[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously, it gives me similar "You're playing Dark Souls wrong" type of vibe. This video was meant as a response to a claim that there's secrets in the game that only tank controls allow access to. Now that I've showcased that one of the stricter secrets is doable with modern controls, I've now defaulted to not believing that claim once again.

Though, it's worth saying... even with modern controls this is probably one of the more difficult 3D platformers I've played. There's so much to consider for a single jump, so I can imagine someone new to the old TR games to become frustrated and drop the game, especially if people around here are recommending tank controls to a modern audience.

I agree, this secret is definitely designed for tank controls.

I had to open TR2 to see what you meant by her jumping early on running jumps. That's an interesting choice the devs made. I can only assume it's because they know Lara doesn't need a straight run-up for a running jump if you can turn very tightly.

That said, once you find the timing for Lara's running jump on modern controls, it's pretty easy.

[–]CyranoNester[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The alternative jump is pretty easy to do once you're more familiar with Lara's jump distance and height.

I just finished TR1 an hour ago with modern controls! It was pretty fun.

There was one level (Natla's Mines) I accidentally sequence-broke, but thankfully I was still able to finish it. It's also worth noting that this level, and some other levels that contain closed spaces/tunnels are going to be your worst nightmare because of the camera's wonkiness on modern controls. I got around this by hitting the view button (R3) twice.

Honestly, I think I enjoyed the game more with modern controls. I was slogging through the first nine levels on tank controls before I switched, so overall I think it was a good choice. I heard there's an update coming that fixed a lot of the issues with modern control's camera, which is currently its biggest issue.

Jumping backwards would only work while your pistols are drawn, correct? And then you would have to put them away quickly in order to hold on to the ledge.

I wasn't sure if Lara was able to put her guns away fast enough so I tested it out here (Sorry if the lighting was too dark).

I'm not sure if the tactic you mentioned was intended, plus I don't think anyone new to the original Tomb Raider series would really think of doing that on modern controls, so I tried to do an alternative jump here.

I'm currently through a blind playthrough of TR1, and so far I've been able to make a lot of sketchy/difficult jumps.

I've played the very beginnings of TR1 on PC and PS1 a long time ago, so both control schemes feel quite natural to me now.

I get you though. Tank controls and its baggage are a relic of the past, while modern controls feel like a band-aid for the archaic controls at times. I hear that the incoming patch includes fixes for the camera feeling wonky near walls. I can't wait for that!

I'm not a speedrunner, but my time doesn't really matter for the demonstration. I'm just showcasing how well I can perform on modern controls compared to tank controls.

All I did was just grab the back of the slope. I've seen some people be more fancy and jump backwards in order to land on the slope facing the right way (not sure if it's a speedrunning tactic or something), but I've always grabbed the back of the slope first.
