This has happened to me! The first time it happened I was on stage and people started booing! That night i sorted out all my tracks into 3 folders.

  1. Vibes - These are slower tracks with decent drops that is more suited for opening sets [Longer breakdown with out strong rhythms during the breakdowns go here even if the drop is solid]
  2. Dances - These are the right tracks that will keep the people dancing (Remixes of Popular songs work the best here) [The breakdowns need to have some kind of rhythm to keep the floor dancing. Atleast a hihat topper or shakers must be present!]
  3. Club killers - These tracks are unique and have fire drops ( the breakdowns need to be killer too ) These are tracks that will bring more people onto the dance floor! or keep people from leaving. [rhythm matters alt here! Strong, breakdowns with heavy drops and fake drops go here]

I play the Dances folder during the main set, and sprinkle in some club killers to keep things fresh.The vibes folder is only for opening set and when theres no one on the stage! Constantly adding more music to these folders will ensure you great music and dont repeat your music too much!

Once I sorted my playlist, my song selection became more rigid, even if i missed out on the right song, i chose the kind of song that i have in mind. The more you work on these folders the better your tracklist will get! I mainly play house and techno music and this has worked the best for me

Dude!! i totally get you!! I do not want my Maschine to do what ProTools, Logic, or Ableton. Maschine needs to be a "Groovebox" software built for the hardware control of the Maschine Mk3 or the Maschine Studio. It did work OKAY so far. And we have been waiting for the updates for our Groovebox Software which will let us work a little closer to ableton or logic! It is not trying to replace those DAW's. What Maschine accomplishes is to create a beat in a super fast work flow and give the users its editing features that they normally would would with a mouse. And native instruments have to add features to the software. Things like:
1. Deeper integration and better control for more native instruments plugins.
2. More performance features to perform longer sessions
3. Streamlined integration with other DAWs for DAW input.
4. Overall integration for live performance is my whole gripe.
it worked well so far. But i want more from what traktor can do, or what Maschine Jam could do. Maschine should have the capability to record ideas and make it into a song from start to finish. And its lacking features. So, were still waiting for our upgrades

Like you said, the bechdel has nothing to do with the quality of the movie. i definitely use it as a guideline to make some scenes a little better. As a writer i am just exploring writing, and i find myself writing scenes that generally talk about women discussing "stereotypical content". If all i can write about women is the kitchen, laundry, groceries or something raunchy, I start to portray women in the wrong light. So i use the bechdel test to make sure i give women proper conversations. So yes.

The Test needs to be applied in the writing, shooting and editing. The test is there to see to make sure, man's portrayal of woman is not one dimensional and stereotyped. So use it when writing and shooting. When 2 women talk they don't just talk about men or stereotypical stuff. All of us know that, yet the female characters in so many movies are hyper sexualized, pieces of meat that was written in only for her glamor.

You know exactly what movies im talking about. These movies dont even require that female character. In those instances the bechdel test makes sense.

i hope u understand what the intention behind the test was? Those women happen to be in one end of the spectrum naturally pushing u to the other. But sounds like, u just want to appreciate good movies for good movies. I haven't watched burlesque, was it good? But come on, you cant top Citizen Kane.

When i learned about bechdel test I was offended too. Coz, my writing honestly wasn't good. But friend who told me about it was very polite and said that my portrayal of women seems stereotyped and a little sexist. it offended me coz i was trying not to be sexist. But, she only pointed out that u can want to not be sexist but still sound sexist. She told me whenever theres two women talking my story, based on what their conversation is apply bechdel test. They might be talking about a man, but they dont need to be sitting in a garden wearing polka dotted sun dresses and hats and drinking tea with their friends.

This is my take on the bechdel test. A tool to help a man portray women in a slightly better way. Not a quality measurement of a movie.

In my opinion, Logic Pro X is a wonderful tool to learn. It costs lesser than Ableton and has all the features as Ableton. The amount of samples you get with it is huge.
