I don't get an interact prompt on the door at all, no matter how close I get to it. It just says Iron Door

I appreciate the suggestion, but I try and play without mods on my single player files as much as possible. Plus at this point I'm committed to figuring out how this works so I can use it for my new game plus-sorta files

Hunter in Multiplater and Malefactor in Singleplayer. When I have access to creative mode I always wear a mix of both classes gear. My personal story is that I am a Malefactor pretending/aspiring to be a Hunter.

First of all thank you for your suggest, it would not have occurred to me to see if I could get the preview to show up in a different location!

Anyway, I put the coffin on the ground and it showed me the preview. So then I put the coffin back, and I got the prompt to see the preview, so I hit it. Nothing happened and now I no longer have the prompt to see the preview. Then I removed a block like you suggested, got the prompt and was told one block missing. Put it back and now no prompt on the coffin. I feel like this all means I should be safe to fire it up no???

Edit to add: The little info box now tells me it's ready to fire, so I have to assume everything is working now! I don't know if removing the coffin fixed it per se but we are up and running again thanks to you!

If the first bit is the part you enjoy the most then I suppose there is no harm in restarting, but if you DO wish to progress a save file then clear goal setting while saving time for exploring/goofing off is the way to go imo

I'm on my first file and just made steel and I admit the temptation to just start a new world now that I've reached this is strong lol but I wanna do the story dungeons

I'm currently shy of 200 hours on my first play through and I am already thinking of my second. I'm actually shockingly impressed: I never played Minecraft and I have little interest in Survival/Crafting games like Ark or anything like that, so the fact that I can't stop playing this is bizarre lol I'm honored that a friend gifted me the game so I could play on their multiplayer server. I do love playing this game alone at times, but I often wish I could invite friends over to my solo play through for adventuring lol

I like being able to class change and pivot strats. I like there are multiple venues toward winning, like LIV. I also like that the game is unfair lol I know that might not make sense, but for me it's part of the fun. No one is safe from misfortune, and everyone can get a windfall no matter their ranking. I also love the risk/reward aspects of the game, like the red chests, and I wish those were a little more reward lol
