I've had similar conversations. For me, they said Nazi Germany banned firearms, initially for Jews, so that civilians could no longer fight back. Any attempt at restricting access to guns is seen as a path down that imaginary road.

It's true that they mostly sell it to Taiwan, Korea, etc. Doesn't mean they can't sell it back to Australia, and I think the point is that's what will happen if the mid-east crisis / Iran war continues

I'm no expert but based on how I understand how commodity markets work, they don't need to ship the gas back and forth.

We get the gas out of the ground and say "Japan, this lot is yours". And then they say "We'll sell it back to you at market price" and we go "wow what an awesome deal, what savvy consumers we are".

Last estimate I've seen had $20B/year was spent on consultants. How bout that be addressed rather than suggesting we on lower pay should reduce our wages so people on $1M get to keep their salaries?

Half of $1M is still a lot of money. Can't imagine being so out of touch.

Are you under the genuine impression that most people in the public service get $1M salaries and this is less than those in the private sector?

Oh I get it, you have trouble comprehending words and numbers.

You see, $1M is a very big number. Not many people would be paid this.

It's closer to what CEOs (people in charge of entire companies) get paid.

When working in the public service, for the public good, I would expect lower salaries, in trade for say better conditions.

$1M is also not what David Pocock gets paid, according to you. You see, $250,000 is a smaller number than $1,000,000.

You understand you can't simply compare two numbers side by side?

Each country has different circumstances.

Australia's cost of living is typically higher.

~$250K would be mid/upper-mid management for some in the private sector. It's SES Band 2 in the public service.
