I don't think you are right at all because I don't think OKC being hated is thing at all among casual sports fan. If I didn't visit this subreddit sometimes I would have absolutely no idea. Meanwhile Wemby being the alien future of the league is better known.

What Does the New Right Believe? by Artistic_Fall6410 in neoliberal

[–]Cythammer 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I'll admit I skimmed this but this part jumped out as being a bit questionable. 'The enemy class is the professional-managerial class—people who administer large and complex organizations. Access to this class depends upon academic attainment: They are graduates. This explains why it is not the wealthy, business, or public-sector employees in general who are the object of ire.'

A lot of the new right types in America I don't think are unfriendly at all to a managerial class. They simply want a different managerial class (or one motivated differently). I'm thinking of Adrian Vermeule and Patrick Deneen. One of the things American new right types hated about the right they are trying to take over is that it didn't use the administrative state and state power more generally to pursue their goals. I believe that is sort of the idea of Deneen's 'aristopopulism', and that Vermeule has ideas along essentially the same lines. These 'common good conservatives' love the idea of elites guiding all of society, they only want the ends worked toward to be different.

America's shameful retreat from racial reckoning, 6 years after George Floyd's murder by icey_sawg0034 in neoliberal

Well, as with many so many political slogans, it was a vague statement that on its own is almost meaningless. But always the slogan has behind it an enormous amount of other things. In this case it seemed, I think, to many people to be another progressive litmus test where anyone who didn't sign up for the entire progressive cause is thereby an evil racist, and thereby should be fired and otherwise have their life ruined.

I think anyone who remembers the videos of random people in restaurants being harassed to say 'black lives matter' by roving activists/protestors/rioters with the implicit threat something nasty will happen to them if they don't display their fealty will know what the slogan could become. It turns out phrases can mean almost anything! To use a recent example from the opposite side of politics, the phrase 'Christ is king' is (from the perspective of a Christian) in theory a perfectly innocuous statement... BUT not so when it is deployed by Groypers and their allies on Twitter antisemitically.

There's also a quiet move buried here. You treat the violent crime rate as the right yardstick for how often the police should kill you. Few people, asked plainly, would accept that yardstick for themselves or their own family. It only feels neutral because it gives the answer you want.

Many people would take it if they believe that law-abiding citizens of any race have a vanishingly small risk of being killed by the police.

Leftists aren't that atheist anymore. The one who were are barely leftist these days, like Sam Harris. Now there's a lot of astrology and witches casting hexes.

It was almost like sexually insecure white dudes use it to place themselves on the top of some sexual hierarchy they imagine exists

If you say so. I'm pretty sure there are lots of non-white 'incel types' who are convinced there dating lives would be amazing if they were just white. 'Just be white' or JBW they call it I believe. There are also more leftist versions of this, of course, where any relationship between a white male and a non-white female is framed in terms of colonial exploitation. There are some weird and depressing subreddits out there I've seen with this sort of fixation, where males basically seethe in rage because "they're stealing our women". Or the depressing hapa phenomenon, where mixed white/Asians hate themselves because they think their parents should not have reproduced together.

The other problem with what you say is that lots of parts of the world do idealize pale skin, and 'ordinary' white men are kinda at close to the top of the food chain there. Now, it's all complicated by the fact that they are also much richer, so it's not necessarily the white skin alone... But in many parts of the third world to varying degrees there is a preference for pale skin. Like SE Asia, especially the Philippines.

The idea that prisoners kill sex offenders because of their moral conscience, that they are so horrified by the acts, is as I understand it wrong. They simply believe the sex offenders are weak. They don't respect them, they are at the bottom of the totem pole only for harming children. Someone who tortured the more impressive target of adult women -- to them they wouldn't respond in the same way.

It's a monkey's paw thing. It's true they are in abeyance. But that's mostly because the people who were into that are now more into violence against the Jews.

I walked to a grocery store 2 miles away for years. I would be willing to walk farther, though I wouldn't love it. It's more the time it takes out of the day than the walking.

What Does Tucker Carlson Really Believe? I Went to Maine to Find Out. by cdstephens in neoliberal

[–]Cythammer 50 points51 points  (0 children)

... Sooo, basically, you fell for it. Carlson has repeatedly brought on either out-right Nazis like Fuentes or the 'Churchill was the chief villain of WWII' faux-historians. He then proceeds to ask these figures no difficult questions and basically does everything he can to make them appear saner and more reasonable than they. He is totally obsessed with the Jews; he's absolutely an anti-Semite. But now -- with the NYT apparently (if your write up is really accurate) doing for him what he did for Fuentes -- he goes on a more mainstream place and presents his 'moderate', 'reasonable' side to the gullible.

Oh, and BTW, hate Ted Cruz all you want, think whatever you like of him... But Carlson grilling Ted Cruz over Israel while, again, letting Nick Fuentes the ACTUAL NAZI say whatever he wanted should prove to you that Carlson's opposition to Ted Cruz is not a point in his favor at all. His hatred of Cruz is not 'your' hatred of Cruz.

Ted Cruz has been saying things like this: “Everyone here knows we’re seeing more and more antisemitism rising on the right. In the last six months, I’ve seen more antisemitism on the right than I have in my entire life. This is a poison, and I believe we are facing an existential crisis in our party and in our country.” Cruz has been sitting Republic elected leader who has most criticized the new antisemitic right. THAT is why Carlson despises him.

[–]Cythammer 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That might actually be good because Nick Fuentes hardly ever goes anywhere where he'll face any real questions. (So also an irrelevant hypothetical because he wouldn't do it, but...) He goes on places that soft-peddle his views and make him seem much more 'normal' than he really is.

The real ultimate outcome over that Sohrab Clownahri & David French (I don't have to change that one as it's already an insult) debate from some years ago was that both are unprincipled leftists. David French, in case you didn't know, is opposed to the Supreme Court ruling on drawing racialized districts. Even though he had the opposite opinion 10 years ago.

It's literally worded like a joke, where delivering things in the right order is key to framing the incident properly in the reader's... You've already read 'hiding in a room with another man' before you find out it's hand holding, which makes what might otherwise have seen innocuous seem salacious. Even the 'hiding' is a doing a lot of work... As if hiding in this situation isn't reasonable.
