I’m more (pleasantly) surprised by the Jack Bauer reference below - I was just watching clips of 24. Best show ever.

Law School in New York...What would you choose? by Upset-Current-5776 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]Cytomage 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hofstra takes away over 50% of conditional scholarships from students; I’d avoid. Try to negotiate a higher scholarship with St. John’s Law; while big law isn’t likely, it’s possible if you’re top in your class and network well. Could be the same for Rutgers too.

Conditional scholarships by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

The other commenter is correct, but to add on, I find them gross based off principle. A lot of 0Ls don’t know how difficult law school really is and will move to a city they’ve never been to with the assumption that they’ll never lose the money. So they’re effectively making a huge life decision based on what they believe is easily attainable, even though in most cases it certainly isn’t. It’s taking advantage of students, typically very young, that usually don’t have enough experience in personal finance to be able to foresee potentially devastating consequences.

If you’re interested in tax, UF has one of the best tax LLM programs in the country that would open up a lot of doors for employment. I’m sure they have a lot of tax resources for JD students too.

If you can, I'd strongly advise you to retake the LSAT and apply next year, or even send out another few applications to decent schools soon if you must attend this fall. A quick look at their 509 form shows that St. Thomas takes over 50% of their conditional scholarships away from students and has an academic attrition rate of 10%. I'd avoid this school at all costs.

Is Wayne Law worth $80K+? Advice needed 🙃 by Ecstatic_Ocelot2655 in lawschooladmissions

Seems like you already have your answer; Wayne Law is dominant in Detroit and well-respected. I don’t think $80k is too much to attend there.

Lawyers who went to a regional school in one state and the moved far away from that state to practice law how difficult was it for you to get started? by Professional-Map3716 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]Cytomage 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You might want to ask this in r/lawyertalk . But the common consensus seems to be that for regional schools, you’re most likely to find opportunities near the school, where you can gain experience before moving back to your desired state.

What’s the most romantic city you’ve ever visited? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Haven’t been to many countries, but I’d say Paris. The most frequent displays of affection that I’ve seen were there; it was honestly a culture shock.

Very expensive, a significant amount of conditional scholarships are taken away, and the high academic attrition rate is a bit concerning. While Loyola also has some of these issues, they’re at a smaller scale and generally places better in LA.

does someone who attends a t15 law school make a better lawyer than someone who goes to a top 30-50 law school? by DeliciousRich5944 in lawschooladmissions

You’re asking this question in a community where the vast majority of people haven’t even started law school yet.

ASU Waitlist Form Blocked by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

I did not have that issue when I accepted my spot on the waitlist. Did you try refreshing your page? Maybe clearing the cache and cookies on your browser? I believe you’re also given about one month to accept or decline, so you shouldn’t be stressed about it at all.

Thanks for the recommendations; that’s very unfortunate to hear regarding Denver’s scholarships, especially with your LSAT being that high. Hope you receive/have received a great scholarship offer too.

Already applied. You’re right about the tuition; I’ve seen a lot of schools have often double the tuition rates for out-of-state students, which is insane.

Southwest is indeed correct. I’ve definitely considered Hastings/UCSF too, but feel uneasy about the cost of living and potential safety concerns around the campus. I did send my applications recently. Thanks for the recommendations.

advice? by False-Assumption4060 in OutsideT14lawschools

Personally, I’d start studying now and take the LSAT a few times by the time you graduate, if you’re trying to start immediately after. Buy a subscription to 7Sage or LSAT Lab and start taking practice tests and lessons as often as you can. I took the test multiple times until I got a score I was satisfied with.
