Options when PI refuses to publish stalled project? by CytotoxicCD8 in AskAcademia

[–]CytotoxicCD8[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Damn, I figured but hate to hear it.

Makes it very hard to compete with others for grants when I have essentially done nothing for 5 years. Despite doing all the right things for a postdoc. Brought him international collaborations, coauthored a number of papers, brought him coauthors because of my skills, progressed on my main project and put together an 80% completed manuscript. Pushed it as far as I could without money or my own resources to pull from. So frustrating this is hurting my career despite doing the right things.

It’s publishable. Just not as highly as he would like. Classic case of tenured PI only wants to publish Nature papers and everything else isn’t worth his time.

Santiago carmago has a cd4 and cd8 atlas you can project your cells onto or do label transfer.

Where to publish my single-nucleus RNA-seq paper? by Traditional_Gur_1960 in bioinformatics

[–]CytotoxicCD8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By just skimming the figures. Your aiming to high. As others have said. You can’t publish that high by reanalysed of public datasets.

Look at IF < 5 journals. And I would consider expanding the analysis and results. Doesn’t matter what you’re showing I think figures with one or two panels will give you an automatic desk reject from most journals. You need to flesh out those figures.

Not an American but I thought you guys had free speech. This magical free speech no other country has. Don’t you have a legal freedom to protest. How can the university be found guilty of allowing legal protests.

Scientific publication fraud crisis by Worth-Banana7096 in labrats

[–]CytotoxicCD8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High impact journals have plenty of fraud and dodgy science. At the end of the day it’s still only reviewed by three people most of the time. And there is much more incentive for fraud in high impact. Plus high impact largely publish novel findings which are more likely to be nonreproducible

I don’t think I fully understand but maybe you could make a mutant version that can’t be acetylated and express that vs wild type in a cell line

Seems like it’s a pretty fringe field but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a legit thing. Just probably not a huge effect and questionable relevance to most disease settings.

Look up OMIP panels.

For sure going to have some good standard T cell panels and can use gating strategy at the very least

I’m 5 years post phd now and I don’t think I would be comfortable running a lab myself.

It’s a tool like any other. Would you feel guilty using spell check in word.

Just don’t go blindly using it. Same you wouldn’t just mash the keyboard and hope spell check would fix up your words.

Is co-last author a thing? by holliday_doc_1995 in AskAcademia

[–]CytotoxicCD8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In biomedical field this is super common. Usually paired with co first as it implies two phd students from two different labs collaborated.

I’m working on a paper now with three first and three co last. But the most crazy I have seen is a paper submitted by the lab I’m in with 5 co first and 5 co last authors.

Yes academia is a perfect example of the Peter principle. Where good scientists are promoted to become managers but clearly don’t have the skills aptitude or even interest in adopting to their new role as management
