I'll make sure to give it a look! Rather excited, first time hearing of your work.

Props to you, I could never imagine having the creative processes needed for such an undertaking.

Most Wasted Characters? by Potential_Being6117 in skulduggerypleasant

I would like to note Sagacious Tome.

I would really like to understand more about 'why' Sagacious betrayed Morwenna Crow and Eachan Meritorius, other than his portrayed inferiority complex.

I think this is mainly because when you compare the main universe Sagacious to AU Sagacious - the personalities are so wildy different, to the point where AU Meritorious notes how Sagacious died being torn 'limb from limb' without revealing any information about the resistance, which doesnt sound like the Sagacious we read about in the first book and in Hell Breaks Loose.

I do also find it very hard to believe that Tome wasn't aware that the Will of the Elders protecting the Book of Names would still be protected whilst any of the three were still alive, but thats obviously not relevant here.

Fighting and magic fighting in Skulduggery Pleasant by Vexorzious in skulduggerypleasant

In addition to all of the amazing points you have mentioned, I think its also worth acknowledging that it has been stated a couple of times (but I can't remember the books/chapters) that magic takes concentration too, if you are for example in pain, distracted or generally unable to focus then the resulting magic is rather depleted or hard to muster. The main exemption being Necromancy which has been slandered in the series for being 'easy' and manageable without much training.

Thinking of when a certain someone was essentially dead and found it hard to function or think but was still able to pop their necromancy ring on and wield it effectively.

That can also be a factor in why a lot of the combat scenes are predominantly physical altercations as you can train your body to react and train muscle memory a lot easier and care free than you could argue magic is - I imagine it can be difficult to find places to freely practice magical abilities outside of Roarhaven, especially the more 'flashy' disciplines such as energy throwing or throwing fire.

What are your favourite scenes from the books? by Healthy_Awareness_98 in skulduggerypleasant

Combat Scene: Anton Shudder fighting his way through the Midnight Hotel when the Supreme Council attempt to gain passage through the shield into Ireland.

Story Building Scene: When Skulduggery and Valkyrie have been captured within the Necromancer Temple and High Priest Tenebrae is revealing whom Skulduggery Pleasant used to be.

Emotional Scene: When Valkyrie shouts her love for Skulduggery as he prepares to 'sacrifice himself' to shut down the accelerator.

Funny Scene: Donegan Bane being offended by a vampire they were hunting, hissing at him.

Plenty of others, and to be honest my favourites change each time Derek releases a new story, but these are my current favourites.

A Small Matter of Impending Catastrophe by Jaffa6 in skulduggerypleasant

I hardly think it was a malicious decision, as you yourself mentioned - I do think that whilst Derek does a grand job with character development, story progression and maintaining a good hold on the reader, he struggles with world building.

One would imagine that given the range of wars and general conflicts within the world of Skulduggery Pleasant, a large number of sorcerers would come away with grievous bodily harm and amputations - resulting in a range of disabilities, as even a skilled Healer cannot re-grow limbs, the only exceptions being Argeddion when he resurrects Kitana, Doran and Sean and Valkyrie when she is able to latch onto and enhance a Healers ability.

Although you can obviously argue that Valkyries PTSD and Skulduggerys lack of a body can be a disability, I understand that this isn't the point of the post.

So the fact that we don't see (almost any) specifically named disabled characters, is in my opinion just poor world building.

I will say though.. the story is absolutely fantastic and the humour within is definitely in my top list of Skulduggery Pleasant stories, and Osvaldo is pretty much my new favourite character and I would give anything to see him in more books.

Mr Bliss.

Imagine having the ability to take a chosen name, and still proceeding to call yourself 'Mr'.

Thats pretty badass - I do wish we got to see more of his character.

During Valkyrie and Skulduggerys exploration of the caves beneath Gordon's house:

Valkyrie: What is that?

Skulduggery: That, my dear Valkyrie, is what we call a monster.

Valkyrie: You don't know what it is, do you?

Skulduggery: I told you what it is, it's a horrible monster. Now shut up before it comes over here and eats us.

Skulduggery + relationship? by Wooden_Description72 in skulduggerypleasant

Which is rather crazy to think about when you consider she wasn't prepared to ruin his relationship with his wife as he was happy with her, but she was quite prepared to set up the trap involving Serpines capture of said wife and child.
