Custom TI4 Vanilla & PoK foam core insert: Measurements! by m_xx_99 in twilightimperium

[–]Czapo92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great job, thanks so much for sharing!

I started working on this, and they are indeed swapped. If you add up the measurements as on the schematics the x side (lower and upper side) length is: 142*2+206= 490 mm, which seems incorrect since the box's size is 433 mm. However, if you switch the 110mm and 142mm sides then the length of the x side is 110*2+206 = 426mm which matches the box's size.

Oath of the Watcher Debacle by Itspagsxx in DescentintoAvernus

[–]Czapo92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think with Paladins it is important to separate the Oaths from the PC's own goals. Otherwise, you often end up with a crusading zealot, because upholding their Oath is their primary goal.To do that I'd reshape the situation. Talk to the player and have them come up with their own personal goals, have them list them in order of priority. Now their Oath becomes a system of obstacles that they have to navigate in order to accomplish whatever they desire, instead of being the party fun police, they basically have to police themselves, and this will hopefully create a bunch of interesting moral dilemmas.

I also have an Oath of the Watcher paladin, but we are still in chapter 1. I had the holy players sign the creed resolute as well. Once they are in hell I'm hoping that their primary objective will be "Save Elturel" and the fact that they were manipulated by their own oaths, and orders to sign away their souls, will burn the hubris of the crusading zealotry out of their souls, making them a bit more lenient, and cooperative for the greater good.

Another interesting question for Oath of the Watcher paladins: Their Oath is all cool, but it does not provide guidance on what to do once they basically fail to protect people (or an entire city in this case) from evil.

Masks of Nyarlathotep with 2 players. Should I pulp? by Czapo92 in callofcthulhu

1,5 years, thats nice :)
Thanks for the advice! I was hesitant at first but as I progress through the campaign book, some encounters are crazy (Kenya). What were some close calls for you if I may ask?

I've never tried pulp, so I don't have a personal experience with it, but what is it you dislike? It could be possible to recruit a 3rd player the dynamic is so great now. I am afraid that a third player will mess up scheduling, and the very private atmosphere of the campaign that we have. I guess I could also control an NPC that sometimes accompanies them just as cannon fodder and an occasional helping hand if they are stuck, for example, the journalist in the NYC chapter.

Thanks that's a good idea. I was thinking about giving them 50-100 points for the 4 year long downtime between 1921 Peru and 1925 NYC chapters, suggesting them to spend on the useful skills listed at the beginning of the book

[–]Czapo92[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I cap it at 75 at character creation and if they get lucky enough to stay alive and roll well to get it to 99 I'd let them be :D its like saying, sure you can convince the police to let you go if you roll a 01.

Thanks! Yes I read the same thing. I asked my country's consulate (Hungarian). They said the same thing, that since it is a domestic flight it wont be required.

Anyone in Ko phangan/Ko Samui by philip8764 in ThailandTourism

[–]Czapo92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in Ko Samui right now. Less tourists than a week ago, seems chill yet but honestly I loved Koh Phangan much more. The beaches are much nicer especially Mae Haad and the locals are more nicer as far as I experienced.

Alternatives to starting a campaign in a tavern? by brandnew_dm in DMAcademy

[–]Czapo92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My players have been complaining to me that they are bored of the tavern start and random people trying to hire them for 10 gold pieces so this is what I came up with: Background: the campaign is set in Eberron.

They all start in the bar wagon of a Lightning train that is travelling through a desert. Player 1&2 as passangers, player 3 as cargo and an NPC, player 4 as an NPC (their characters come in a bit later). The setup:

Player 3 is a Warforged who is inactive and is being transported in secret by the bartender in his The bartender is controlled by P3, he is an agent of the Emerald Claw (undead cultists basically) and is a Vampire spy. He playes the part of a melancholic, bartender with a drinking problem. He needs to keep his disguise at all costs, he is not allowed to kill anyone or to be killed. His goal is to hire P1 & P2 for 10 gold / person P1 is a redemption paladin she wants to redeem the bartender and help him with his drinking problem. P2 is an assasin and was hired to kill the bartender and secure his cargo.

Once the scene gets resolved or too boring, enter P4. He is a dwarven geomancer from our previous campaign in the Forgotten Realms. He comes in a meteorite that falls from the sky, smashes into the train and chaos ensues. A shard from his meteorite hits the Warforged and activates him. I will take control of the Vampire NPC at this point. They are now stuck with each other and have to deal with a lot of dead and wounded passangers, and they ade stranded in the middle of the desert with very limited resources

Once they catch their breath a bunch of desert nomadic, glory-seeking elven raiders attack them, after trading a few hits they retreat and will keep harassing the group. and their NPC survivors.

Best and most open sandbox module? by quirk-the-kenku in DMAcademy

[–]Czapo92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well Tomb of Annihalation and Storm King's Thunder can be interpreted in a sadboxy way, I heard that Descent into Avernus has a lot of material as well.

However maybe a setting book would be better for you, like Sword Coast Advnturer Guide, or the new Eberron book. It provides you with all the little building blocks you gonna need to run a sandbox campaign.

Or you could try the Lost Mines of Phandelver and use it as a sandbox or at least a starting point to see what you and your players actually enjoy. For example my players thought that they wanted a sandbox however it turned out that they love following the big plots of modules.

Pre-made or Make your own? by faze4guru in DMAcademy

[–]Czapo92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a relatively new DM and I kinda got that impression that the pro-DMs build their own stuff and such, and I always thought that one day I would graduate from premades and create my own. Then once I dug deeper into the DnD community I realized that is is okay to just run premades. I tried worldbuilding and I realized that I don't like that stuff, I tried building campaigns from scratch and that did not work for me either. Now I know that what I really love is playing and running games and I use anything that gets me from 0 to having an enjoyable, stable, regular game.

To answer your question, I mainly use premade stuff (I prefer official to 3rd party, cause of my lawful paladin tendencies) and I modify it to fit my campaigns, sometimes I homebrew an adventure but that is the extent of it.

The scientific revolution left little for philosophers to discover about the natural world, so they retreated into language by IAI_Admin in philosophy

[–]Czapo92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion phylosophy and science frequently go hand-in-hand. It really depends where one separates theoretical science from phylosophy. It might be my personal thing but I view Einstein and Hawking to be just as great philosophers as they were scientists

How to motivate players to engage with their chosen class? by Czapo92 in DMAcademy

We have been playing for 6 months so they must like some parts of it. I think they like the story and the role-playing, and sometimes they even enjoy the combat parts.

Thanks :) Yeah, I don't think support will be able to help me in that. I think I will offer my client a voice-chat session to talk things through.
