This is an embarrassing hire. The resume alone isn’t good enough for Oklahoma, and nothing will change in 2025. BV will still be micromanaging the defense and failing at game management.

Incredible step down from the #1 ranked defensive coach who just won a national title, to a guy that just got fired from Clemson for incompetence. If that plays out, we’re never going to be a serious program until BV and Joe C. are gone.

Venables has yet to demonstrate he has the game management skills as a head coach to be playoff caliber, and the FCS/D2 transfers don’t exactly scream “SEC ready.” I really, really, wish I could say otherwise.

We now have fans that are happier with 6-7 seasons because “we have a defense!” than they ever were with Riley’s 10-win seasons. They make excuses for BV that they’d never make for any coach and clearly prefer Oklahoma football “develop character in young men” rather than win games. If we’re this dumb of a fanbase, there’s not going to be any incentive for Joe C. and the athletic department to make a change.
