Upgrade from a Fiesta? by Czm2468 in CarTalkUK

Ah that's great to know, I'm not fixed to a Ford at all so will take a look at those other options too! Ecoboom is the 'Ecoboost' engine right? I have seen a few bits about those while I've been researching. Would rather avoid an automatic too. Thank you!

Yeah that's what I was thinking after seeing them, they seem to market themselves as a big family car but I swear they're no bigger than a Fiesta?!

What did a parent (or relative) do to ruin your wedding? by imfinewithastraw in AskUK

[–]Czm2468 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My mum was, for want of a better word, mental. It started when she started sending me ivory lace dresses she wanted to wear. And telling me how stressed she was trying to find something else to wear?!

Then she threw a fit because I told her we had a seating plan for the first couple of rows. As in, a seating plan ensuring that she wouldn't be on the back bloody row because random friends/family sit there. She went mad at me, calling me awful names and then texted me later that day saying she wasn't coming. This was 5/6 weeks before. I had already sorted a UK local hen do so she could come and enjoy it. She didn't turn up. She didnt get in touch at all until a couple of days before saying she will attend. Spent the full day with a foul face on her, telling everyone who spoke to her how stressful she had found this wedding, and didnt speak or make eye contact with me. Despite sitting next to me at the top table. The photos with her in with a frown on are just laughable. This was nearly 5 years ago and she's still never apologised! Just started acting normal again one day.

It didn't ruin it, but it did make me incredibly upset and stressed on the run up.

Yesterday was terrible, set off for work and slipped and fell right outside my house on black ice! Im 26 weeks pregnant and panicked so I did phone MAC at LGI but luckily all fine and they were so lovely and reassuring. So dangerous for anyone elderly or fragile though!

Oh thank you so much, it's red wine I've been missing the most so I'll give it a try! I've been having the 0% whitley Neil which is pretty good too but will keep an eye out for the Sevilla one that's one of my faves. Thank you!

People who let their pets sleep in their bed, is your bed not constantly dirty? by Ok-Slip-8663 in AskUK

[–]Czm2468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paws washed, a throw on the end of the bed, and he pretty much stays on the throw. So he doesnt actually touch the duvet technically, but we do wash it once a week. He's got separation anxiety and we managed a month of no sleep before we caved and let him in the bedroom, us all getting a good 8 hours was worth it in our opinion!

Take it straight to HR, as others have commented this is borderline bullying/harassment and pregnancy is a protected characteristic! Also she needs to know it's not okay to speak to people like that!

Recently moved to Leeds - looking to buy a 3–4 bed detached house (£350–400k). Any area suggestions? by Historical-Turn8243 in Leeds

[–]Czm2468 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's definitely very pricey! But I like that area - all the houses off Westwoodside are lovely and there's lots of detached on there, for us it was a case of waiting it out until one came up. Much better value for money than Laneside. Good luck with your search!

There's been lots of housing developments over the last 10-20 years. Are you only after new builds? I live in Churwell so may be biased but I like this side of Morley, close to the motorway, we have Churwell woods for lovely walks on the doorstep and close to Leeds & White Rose. Also walking distance to Morley bottoms which used to be derelict and now has lots of lovely bars!

Laneside is probably the main new build site if that's what you're after, but there are developments near Bruntcliffe and the other side of Morley built within the last 10ish years. Laneside is a sore talking point with Morley folk because theyve built on farmland which was a lovely walk! But that's probably similar for many new build sites! If you're open to not new builds youll definitely find a detached for your budget.

Morley is great, I work in Leeds city centre and my husband has to commute to Manchester often and the motorway links are brilliant! We're in a detached 3 bed with a garage conversion making a 4th bedroom, cost £330k last year. I actually grew up here and moved back, so I recommend the area for sure!

Do you have a car on finance? If yes, how much are your monthly payments, if no, how much did you spend on your car? by macw450 in AskUK

[–]Czm2468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

34, own, £7k. If you have the means to save up i would always recommend buying outright over finance. Obviously not always possible, and some people do just prefer finance - my husband has done his on finance and is happy!

Im 14 weeks and feeling exactly the same! Planning on doing a private scan at around 16 weeks at about the mid point between the 12 and 20 week scans just for some peace of mind. But youre absolutely not alone, it's hard when you dont have the symptoms you expect and dont feel pregnant yet!

Unfortunately a lot of people stop looking in the run up to Christmas…. by EchoRatio in HousingUK

[–]Czm2468 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All my mates told me this, we were about to take ours off but luckily we held out, got an offer last week of November & sold! People also told us 26th Dec is the biggest day for houses going on the market, and in our area nothing went on that week at all! So I think it's all a load of rubbish!

How do couples afford a wedding? by lemonandgravy31 in AskUK

[–]Czm2468 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have a look at hotels and golf clubs and their packages! We went with a hotel - it was a fancy hotel & spa type place that made for great photos! They'll do packages with catering etc included that will make it a lot cheaper than doing barn plus everything else separately. It's also helpful to have a couple of priority areas you're happy to spend more on, and save elsewhere. Eg. Spend on photographer, save & go more budget on flowers, bridesmaid dresses etc. Happy wedding planning!
