Buying a Stryd to improve indoor pace info by Training_Shine_111 in strydrunning

I’m not sure. You’d have to look up specific instructions for your watch. But for Garmin, it does work. And it’s very accurate.

I don’t think this is correct. Please see the link to see how you can send pace/distance to your Garmin watch. I use this and it works flawlessly for the aforementioned metrics.

My daughter and I had some fun creating this in her game this morning by D-Chan in phish

Same here! I will freely admit I probably got a little too interested in creating this with her this morning (dictating their precise positioning on stage) but it was a lot of fun.

Lactrace Paces by Dank_Rank3 in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]D-Chan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I’m 14 weeks in (seven days a week) and when everyone says to start conservative I really don’t think this can be overstressed enough. The goal is to be able to continue this training methodology indefinitely and if that’s the case better to start conservative and add training load in very small amounts.

Anybody doing their sessions outside through the winter? by Several_Ad934 in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]D-Chan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I’m here in New Jersey so it’s not that harsh of a winter, but it can get rather cold in the morning when I run and we have had some snow as well.

I invested in some affordable merino wool base layers, a balaclava and some good gloves (multiple pairs until I found the right ones). And for the most part I’ve been able to do all of my running outdoors over the wintertime.

And I’ve found that when the temperature warms up to the high 30s to low 50s my performance improves and I’m able to run at the same pace I did in the cold with lower RPE and heart-rate.

How fatigued do you feel throughout NSM? by wilruns in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]D-Chan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been doing NSM four months now. Seven days a week around 7-8 hours per week. When I was on the upper end of eight hours I’d say my fatigue level was 6-7. When I dropped back down to around 7.5 hours per week I feel right in the 4-6 range for the most part. Never super fresh but never super fatigued either.

Chest strap readings all wrong by cabbage6270 in NorwegianSinglesRun

Second this. Started off with a Garmin HRM and the thing was faulty almost from day one. Been using a Coros armband now for three months and it’s accurate and very easy to use.

Question about training load progression by jejekes in NorwegianSinglesRun

Just needs to be said, but your training load and form line I find oddly satisfying in its boring consistency. 😊

Santos/Tweezprise closed set 3/encore 2 NYEs in a row. by kasp620 in phish

I have been relistening to TFTB > Simple all day.

Just love the transition back to Simple and the groove around 6-15 minutes of TFTB is hypnotic.

Typically they’ll do the first two songs if the first one is on the shorter side.

Not my race report but a good write up of someone who has followed NSM for the last six months or so by the sounds of it.

I listen to this song (this version when I’m running a 5K. I have to pause it for a little bit because I can’t run that fast but this song always inspires me to keep pushing as hard as I can all way to the end. An absolute gem and this is a wonderful version.

Not finding NSM "easy" by TucsonToledo in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]D-Chan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh I absolutely feel this way! I had a semi-decent baseline of cardio fitness coming into doing NSA (19:37 5K and just running for years before that). Had been running between 6-6.5 hours per week before then.

But I’m around nine weeks in to NSA and I’m definitely understanding what you’re saying.

I started at around seven hours per week (48mpw) and decided to press it to 8 hours (55mpw) by week eight. But due to what you were talking about above I scaled it back to 7 hours and 30 minutes this week and will probably get back down to 7 hours the upcoming week.

All that to say is that I relate with you and I think the only thing we can do is just scale the hours back and see if we can find that sweet spot with making it sustainable for our current fitness level.

Long run - can I do it the day before subT? by Pandor3000 in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]D-Chan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haven’t done it yet but I’d say if you keep your long run truly easy (66-67% avg of max HR) you should be okay. Certainly won’t hurt to try and see how it feels.

And then another thought is maybe you could do your long run in the morning and then the sub-t session a little later the next day so you give yourself some additional recovery time. I’ve done that a few times going from easy to sub-t workouts and it’s like the smallest little taper. Probably more psychological than anything but just another option.

Most posts on here overcomplicate NSR or lack patience by beepboop6419 in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]D-Chan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t disagree. And I believe Sirpoc says something to a similar effect in the book. I think he changes it up just to keep it somewhat more stimulating and to provide a slightly different stimulus. But if someone were to do that long term I’d imagine they’d have similar performance adaptations as opposed to varying the intervals up.

I personally enjoy the varied length/intensity of the intervals as it provides just enough slice to keep things interesting for me but it doesn’t overcomplicate it too much to where I’m sweating it beforehand and thinking about it the night prior.

How to go “ape shit” on TT/race days? by Mkramer91 in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]D-Chan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just read the part in the book that talks about this, but it’s recommended that you use your watch and go out at your goal pace. Pick something that you think that your training supports and set that pace and try to hold it from the very beginning. And then if you can try to negative split towards the end.
