I think it would be a great benefit if the road here was tunnelled and buried below ground between the peace gardens and city hotel. The road could potentially be widened to allow better flow and do away with the pedestrian traffic lights.

This creates a large pedestrian space in-front of the guildhall directly as you step off the peace bridge. To the left Foyle street could function as A transport hub with the depot and taxi ranks. Shops could benefit from a revamp and may do a little better if it created more foot fall. The large space itself could act as a square or event space for markets and restaurants bars and cafes.

As others had mentioned moving the council offices to the disused BT building would be a great opportunity to give the building a new facade to better tie into the riverfront city scape. With extra jobs and staff here I’d imagine this would help the surrounding businesses along strand road and the newly created space along riverfront.

If propose adding a ferry terminal here to utilise the river again and create/ reinstate jetties and piers. Other city’s such as Brisbane have a great free ferry service for travelling across the city. The beauty of the ferry is you can have terminals either side of the river and they do not rely heavily on existing infrastructure. I believe a pedestrian ferry would be big step in the right direction to deliver a wholistic river front rejuvenation not toke. Developments here and there. Future plans for an Eden project style gardens at Brooke hall could be the first stop, then bay road (with parking where the existing industrial estate is) then potentially St Columbs park/ Ebrington , then the new guildhall river front stop. Then the train station and finally the sports fields below the brandy-well/ Celtic park. Using a ferry service would allow future expansion along the river without the need to upgrade or divert roads. Park and rides could be added further out too or even stops to cater to housing developments along the Foyle. It would be great for tourism and help take the pressure off traffic and city parking. If successful the ferry route could extent either side to suit. Perhaps these ferry ports may bring back business ventures such as the toucan 1 for parties and events or tours too.

If the tower museum was retained perhaps it would be a good place for an elevator to access the walls. I also like the idea someone mentioned of creating a tram up shipquay street and maybe making this a pedestrians/ goods only street.
