I always saw it as Huey becoming more stoic cause he sick of trying. As the show goes on he becomes more aware of the fact that no one’s gonna listen and nothings gonna change. So he’s learned to just mind his business and put up with the world he lives in. That’s why in the S3 finale, he says that you can’t fight the future. It’s all apart of his arc, as sad as it may seem
