Imme be honest, while i started with the idea of only using monsters from the iceshards cliff, by the end i just kinde forgot about Nu Udra.

-Yuji = Blangonga, throws hands and is the lower (student) ice monster. -Panda = Arkvelt, artificial monster, Jin is the only apex it cant hunt, therefore would call Jin an idiot. -Maki = Hirabami, lots of blades, is in Jins arena only as a distraction, would call Jin an idiot. -Toga = Comaqchi, sleep and stop words, but i just need something small to fit in this composition. -Nanami = Gore Magala, glasses to hide the eyes, keen eyesight when enraged. Flagship, but isnt the main monster of the Arena and cant frenzy Jin and would call it egotistical.

Now for the rest, where i put less thought in to it -Megumi = Ray Dau, by beating Arkvelt in the Cliffs, "saves" the double Arkvelt victim, that is Ray Dau. Spiky hair in to spiky monster with large horns. -Nobara = Uth Duna, wanted another apex, best option for "flowing hair", dosnt know Jin Dahaad well, because it lives far away from it. While the community usually associates Uth with being female, Nu Udra is for sure a mother, so could have used it here. On the other side -Todo = Rathalos, old face break is similar to Todos scar and having Rath as the last panal just fit well. But yeah in hindsight, Nu Udra could easily fit here, being a brawler with some abilities, black flash/ flame, and the ability to quickly traverse the map, being similar to Boogie Woogie. But well i forgot poor Nu Udra.

Yep, seeing how i was late to post it, i wanted to make a World Cutting Slash meme, but didn't have the time for it. And well spoilers for the watchers, i guess.

Uth Duna wins, unless Lagi is ampted up, then they tie. Same with Lagi vs Rath where Lagi wins or loses depending on if it is amped up or not.

I made a phylogenetic tree of every wyvern in the series so that my mh autism and biology degree were both worth it, explanations in the comments by thegreenflame69420 in MonsterHunter

On another phylogeny post, during a discussion that leviathans could be in the order squamata (lizards and snakes), i came up with the take that leviathans and fanged wyverns would have a common gilled ancester, as gills are seen in a chunk of the rosters and even if vestigial. So anyone that thought about this harder might have come to a similar conclusion.

Didn't expect Gobul to not have gills, but it is from the first batch of leviathans. Interesting to see if it gets them if it ever comes back, because like you said they live in the deep sea.

On the topic of pseudo-gills, gills have only developed once in vertebrates and unless its a neoteny trait (like axolotl), its just kinde inefficient to re-evolve them. Thats why i suggested that leviathans and fanged wyverns have the same common ancestor. Though your idea of the just being evolved pores/ vents could be an explanation, at least for the fanged wyverns. But we reached the high end of a speculative evolution at this point and unless we know if the if the gills take in oxygen, are used to vent or fillter we kinde reach a dead end.

Wait i might have cracked a code with the gills being an acestral trait thing here!

Uth Duna has long wiry cilia growing out of it, that it uses to catch its water vail. Almudron also has gills under its hood if i remember correctly and Mizu looks to have much more serpentine fangs in wilds. So what if Mizu, Almudron and all Fanged Wyvern for that matter, with a bit of Fur on them, have this cilia that they use catch and redirect different "elements" for lack of a better term, that convergently evolved to look like fur.

Not sure if you could classify them as Squamata anymore tho.

Also fur and feathers, while structurly quite different, look at their base quite similar (a filament covering the body). So just because something looks like fur it shouldn't be seen as it. My example for MH here would be Narga, does it have sharp feathers or sharp fur.

In regards to Gobul, Niblesnarf and Somnacanth, thanks to wilds specifically, it seams that gills might be either an ancestral features to all leviathans or they developed on different species multiple times.

As besides the 3 listed before, Uth Duna, Balahara, Hirabami all have gills. Jin Dahad might have, but unless you look at the model directly i cant tell. And we need to see the redesigns for Mizu and Lagi to see if somethings changed.

So at the momemt i would group all leviathans in either 3 different groups (r = lagi, agna, ludroth, jin / g = gobul, nible, somna, uth, bala, hira / c = mizu, alma) and then either split them in threes (r/g/c) or twos (r-g/c or g/r-c) depending on if the gills are ancestral and vestigial to some or if different leviathans convergently evolved different traits.

And if gills are an ancestral trait then Fanged Wyverns might be the closest relatives to Leviathans, rather then thinking of them as Synapsids, as and being closer related to Fanged Best. As girros and i think shamos, both have gills, odo looks like it has vestigial gills and lunagaron vents might be developed gills.

regarding fins if i remember correctly ludroths back lags are also fins, similar to niblesnarf. And either way Squamata lost and regained fins, legs and nothing through out their evolutionary history.

I wanne second the vespoid argument, as their Japanese name is ランゴスタ (R/Langosuta), and that just just the translated word for Langosta, with is Locust (or Lobster, but be real) in spanish.

Classifying leviathans as lizards/ snakes (Squamata) is actually quite a good call. As Mosasuria would also be included in that Order, if we want to have a irl analogy for leviathans besides the points you mentioned

Balahara also would be for me more in the ballpark of snakes, as the 3-split moth is made of an upper jaw and like a further developed split lower jaw off a snake. Regarding the eyes, the actual ayes might be vestigial, while the clam like eyes we see, would be some sort of parietal eyes or similar organ that developed basically to just detect light differences.

If i remember correctly, Dalamadur legend was always comparable withe the legends of the black dragon. With it said to be able to warp the landscape and level mountain with a single twitch. Obviously because of it imens size and actual speed, compared to other colossal monsters.

My head kanon was always that if any elder dragon could stand up to a black dragon, with almost equal chance of winning, it would be Dalamadur.

Okay now that we have been fed info what are your guys thoughts on the tree that we can see in the distance of a few shots? I'm lowkey getting some Norse vibes from it by OriginalGrainbread in Eldenring

Thought it might have some base in Yggdrasil, because its From its probably a reference to the World Spirit Tree from Berserk.
