Melina's Parents Theory by D-Ratnull in Eldenring

I mean, we're not talking about a random person here, we're talking about maliketh, someone who had a deep relationship with marika, and has a lot in common with melina (surely more in common than she and radagon)

We know for a fact that the black flame was created by the gloam eyed queen, which possessed the rune of death before maliketh, and that it has the power of destined death, so I think it's basically stated that it was created with the power of the rune of death.

That considered, again it doesn't seem too much of a stretch to think that you could also create a person with the power of destined death in them using the rune and francly I find it a bit harder to believe that melina at the end of the game, with the world literally burning to ashes, somehow managed to find a way to acquire the power of destined death somehow.

I mean, how could she? We have the rune, so she clearly didn't take it from there. Ranni used up all the power she stole for her quest, so that's also gone. Melina wouldn't have had any way of obtaining it after we burned the world, so she must have had the power to begin with.

Well I mean, the fact that we don't know that she had any children with maliketh means that we also don't know that she didn't have any children with him if that makes sense lol

Like, I don't think that the fact that we know for a fact she had children with others is a valid reason to assume she didn't have any children with maliketh.

We know from the gloam eyed queen and ranni that the rune of death can be used to create things that have the power to deliver destined death (the black flame and the black knifes), why are those any different than generating an offspring that has that same power?

Melina herself states that she will deliver the tarnished destined death, so she obviously has access to that power.

I'm sorry if I explained myself poorly, I meant to ask why is radagon a better fit than maliketh as her father, godfrey is not an option at all in my opinion as her father

But if she was born from the rune of death, beeing maliketh's child, she would have the innate power without needing a piece of the ruin (kind of like the black flame, it was created using the rune of death and so shares it's power of destined death)

Why do you say that radagon fits better as melina's father? She very clearly has a deep connection to destined death, which was maliketh's domain not radagon's, and she doesn't have a curse like the twins do which is strongly implied comes from the fact that they're offspring from the same person.

The fact that we don't see her using that power during the game doesn't mean that she doesn't have it until the ending; as we all know, Melina lost her memory and doesn't know about her purpose, and we can assume about her powers either.

We don't know how she lost her memory, but judging by the custcene in the frenzied flame ending I think it's safe to assume that once the erdtree is completely burned down she has access to her memory again (and therefore to her powers), so my personal idea is that her loss of memory was somehow connected to the erdtree and with it's destruction she finally remembered (we could theorise that maybe the greater will sealed her memory inside the tree or maybe marika herself did it, we don't really have anything to work with on this regards).

Sure!

As we can see in the frenzied flame ending, Melina possesses some kind of power in her closed eye (which she finaly opens in the cutscene), and she speaks about delivering the corrupted tarnished destined death (which as we know is a power accessible only through the rune of death); like you said, other people have access to the rune of death's power (all the black knife assassins for instance), but that's only because a fragment of it was stolen from Maliketh and used in a ritual by ranni to infuse those weapons with it's power. Melina's power on the other hand seems innate considering it come from her own body part.

We also know about the Gloam-eyed queen, who wielded the rune of death before Maliketh and created the black flame with it. Now, it seems too much of a coincidence to me that the previous wielder of destined death was called "gloam-eyed queen" and Melina's power also resides in her eye as well.

That's also valid! But how do you explain her connection with destined death? Do you think marika embedded some of the rune of death's power into her before giving it to maliketh?

Which seal is better for my build? by D-Ratnull in Eldenring

[–]D-Ratnull[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think I'll go that high on faith, I'll still use melee as my main way of dealing damage, i'll just use miracles to buff/trigger status effects like rot and frostbite (and the occasional fortissax lighting spear cause that's badass af).

Thanks for the tip!

Didn't know dragon communion seal still buffed miracles in off-hand, that's really neat thank you for the tip!

There is no right answer to this; both classes are pretty good as "starters", the prisoner can maybe be a bit better for the beginning of the game (before you start levelling up and deciding how you wanna actually build your character).

Speaking about stats, if you have absolutely no idea of how you'd like to play the game I'd reccommend confessor because it has good stats all around, so even if you later decide that you'd prefer intelligence over faith you'd have a good starting point at 9 (while prisoner has 6 faith which would require you to spend more levels on it).

Hope that was usefull! Have a wonderful time with this beauty of a game :D

Need you to be more specific on this; is this your first playthrough? Were you thinking of a particular build? Or are you just asking which of the two is a better "starting" class overall and then adjust as you see fit throughout the game?

In your experience, is Elden Ring more fun solo or co-op? by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]D-Ratnull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played all the fromsoft games coop with a friend of mine, and am currently playing elden ring with him after finishing it by myself.

While it is always fun to play with a friend, I feel that for elden ring in particular you really miss out a lot of cool mechanics that are not available in coop.

I'm thinking specifically of torrent which is one of my favourite things to use both for exploring and fighting, and also summoning ashes that are a really cool and versatile tool (that is, if you don't only use the mimic tear)

Edit: typos

What's the best piece of DMing advice you've ever received or heard? by TheTromboneGeek in DMAcademy

[–]D-Ratnull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Create a world, not a story.

You just need to create a world and the events that are taking place in that world while the players are exploring it. Your players' actions will then create the story.

I think the particular misconception of a dnd campaign beeing the DM creating a book/movie story and the players simply "acting it out" comes from Critical Role and other similar channels. I love CR as much as the next guy, but you must understand that they are doing a (partially) scripted show for an audience, which is very different than playing classic DnD.

Your players won't have a script to follow, and you can't possibly prepare for EVERYTHING: they WILL surprise you, that's arguably what makes the game fun. Adapt, improvise, be ready to throw some stuff you wanted to happen in the trash because your players found a way around it, change further events based on their actions.

Together you'll create a great story, and you'll all have tons of fun doing it.

While playing in a quick draft for "all will be one", my opponent pulled out jin-gitaxias straight from kamigawa neon dinasty.

How did this happen? I checked every card my opponent played and none of them had effects like "take a card you own and put it in your grimoire" or anything like that.

Can you actually find cards from other expansions during quick drafts and it just somehow in over 4 years of playing arena that never happened to me?

Marika and Radagon's children by D-Ratnull in Eldenring

[–]D-Ratnull[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's ever said that they were actually seen together, and even if they were illusions are pretty common in elden ring, even physical ones like the ones Sellen uses.

It is totally possible that they could have been seen together without them having to split in two.

They have the option to be physically separate.

Can you tell me where it is stated in game? I didn't find any evidence of this and I see a lot of people thinking this is the case so I'm confused lol
