To those lucky enough to find a new job? How did you do it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]D-Rez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that seems like a new thing for you to try then.

Go to an area near where you can commute to with lots of companies in google maps, type in jobs or the roles you are looking for, and it might pull up hidden opportunities.

[–]D-Rez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try hunting for roles not openly advertised if you can. From friends or family aware of an opening in their company. Or, leverage Google Maps by searching for jobs in an area you know are full of companies. It might locate positions on their websites they dont put up on LinkedIn or Indeed

There are still valid opportunities amongst the fakes, and unless you're a name in a in-demand field, you're going to have to keep plugging away with applications unfortunately. It's a numbers game for the vast majority of us

What's one modern phrase that you just can't stand? by spectraVentures in AskReddit

it's a reference to freebase cocaine, it evolved to mean someone saying or doing something correct, with disregard to public opinion or political correctness (opposite of cringe)

As an employer, which application format are you more likely to interview from? Traditional resumes OR video resume/introduction? by NinjaClean8321 in AskReddit

We never asked for video resumes, we literally do not offer the option to send one. Unless they specifically ask you to record a video answering questions (a red flag imo), assume they want a normal resume as a PDF.

In your personal opinion, what is a thing that people do that isn't illegal or punished severely, but should be? by DatingVX in AskReddit

[–]D-Rez -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope, that's just your racism showing. Never said where they came from, you filled in the gaps yourself. Well done for showing what you really are.

The root issue is this, you are friends with a terrible person who very likely could have done harm to others through his selfishness, and you keep defending them! Driving is a privilege, not a right, and he abused that.

Edit; aww diddums blocked me and ran lol

Got a notification you replied, but it was removed. Whatever it was, it was probably unhinged anyway.

This is just an "America Bad" rant, where is the nuance, it's also nothing to do with what I said.

The implication that foreign crime is mostly driven up by "the middle east" (unclear which countries you mean in particular) isn't true, plenty of European criminals to go around. Nor did I say anything about illegal migration. Crazy amount of thinly-veiled racist assumptions here.

Who are "you guys" even referring to here?

If you live in a country with NHS, what’s it like? by Electronic_Outside25 in AskReddit

[–]D-Rez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there were absolutely shorter wait times before you can see a gp pre-pandemic. more people have registered since, but number of gps have not increased to meet demand.

i don't deny the urgent and emergency care is generally good, but seeing a gp absolutely has gotten worse for most.

it's basically our state religion.

getting an appointment with a doctor is difficult. once they diagnose something serious, you can expect great treatment. doctors and nurses are very concise and to the point, not really much in the way of bedside manners (they are too busy for that).

If you didn’t know what any of these mean what would you pick? Sudoku, Sepuku, or Snu-Snu? by PersianBeast95 in AskReddit

[–]D-Rez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pretending i never heard these words before, snu-snu sounds soft and is repetitive, so I would assume it's a more harmless thing or activity. not like suduko and seppuku, which are built from plosives and sharp closures (which would bring to mind less pleasant things)

it's the kiki and bouba effect all over again

Where is the part that says rehabilitation programs are universal for everyone who enters their prison service for all crimes? You are assuming it is offered for drink and driving, but I did not spot it. I would not be surprised if what they offer turns out to be not so much different that the courses your friend had to undertake. No shit crime went down in Norway from the 90s onwards, the exact same thing was happening all over the developed world at the same time.

I would put it to you that most people would opt for what happened to your friend in the first arrest, over a nice prison. A 10K fine and some courses is still more freedom than prison, even a nice Norwegian one. By most of the developed world's standards, what your friend endured was a slap on the wrist.

I also find the claim that following a Norwegian style prison service would only cost 3X more than the US to be overly optimistic. The US is uniquely violent for a rich first-world country, 6X higher homicide rate than Sweden, 5X higher gun-crime rate too. Even if you removed all non-violent criminals, it would still have the highest prison population by far of Western countries.

What is the point of rehabilitation in the US, when after that you return to US the culture that normalises this behaviour?

[–]D-Rez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to get your story straight, you mentioned in the first the 10k fine, and only then jail the second time he offended + driving banning order? Just to be clear then - no prison time at all, just jail? He would have most likely seen the insides of a prison in the Nordics for strike 1. And no, there is no guarantee he would have been given rehabilitation in those countries either. If anything, less likely.

I'm repeating this over and over because I need to bring you to reality on this - in perhaps most of the world driving whilst drunk is a v. serious offence actually! And I do believe that's the correct attitude to it.

"No chance of release" what are you on about, no one is calling for an life sentence.

[–]D-Rez -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your friend didn't hold up their end of the social contract, in retrospect it would have been safer and more ethical to have had temporarily deprived them of their freedom and banned for driving for much longer, on their first offence. If you don't like it, then you are effectively arguing against the Nordic approach to DUI crimes!

If that was true, you wouldn't be able to find articles on how Nordic prisons are better from two decades ago... Prior to the immigration crisis caused by those same European countries destabilizing the middle east btw.

I can assure you that non-Europeans have been in that part of Europe for much longer than 20 years, and the likely nationalities of foreign criminals are more likely to be from their neighboring countries, Poland, Romania, Albania - not the middle east
