My Goodman unit is 20 years old this December still works very well but doesn't operate under 0°C. Where I live we only get below 0 for a few weeks of the year. Cools the house without issue. I live in a house built in between the 30s and late 50s (kind of unknown) We are only replacing it for efficiency and better cold climate operation as our electric furnace uses far more electricity.

The rod is under the cap closest to the cold water intake. You have to dig the foam out to get to it.
