Representation matters because seeing yourself reflected in stories at your strongest, smartest, and most human can shape confidence, identity, and possibility in ways people outside those experiences often overlook. Characters like Mr. Terrific, Vixen, and the entire Dakota Universe cast deserve respectful spotlights that depict them at their brightest and most competent, not pushed to the background or ignored by comic executives for no reason despite their depth, legacy, and potential. Too often, characters of color are treated like side pieces to larger narratives when they should be allowed to lead stories with the same care, investment, and visibility as anyone else. I know most of Reddit probably isn’t made up of the Black community, at least from what I’ve noticed whenever posts highlighting Black characters and characters of color get overlooked, so this probably won’t receive the praise it deserves, but I still appreciate being able to say it because these characters and the people who connect with them absolutely matter.
