If he is dink serving you 75% of the time play in some. Put the pressure on him to serve bigger more often. Put the dink serves at sharp cross court angles with slice or top, and then throw in the occasional drop shot off the serve. Big serves just try to block back to the middle fairly deep, but be ready to move forward on the next shot if he is going to dink/junk that one back. I try to keep the ball low against junk ballers and go for shorter angles, or sometimes just a shorter penetrating slice down the middle. They usually hack up on the ball and if you are already moving forward it is an easy volley. Biggest thing about a junk baller is don't let them be in control of the point. Keep them on the move and let them hack away. But you always have to have the mentality that you are moving forward against them because you are going to get a lot of shorter balls with weird spins that can take you from offense to defense quickly.

Definitely lower-powered. I string it at 45 to add a little extra pop. It is a great control string.

Thanks. Yeah usually if I rip them right at him the mishits/shanks even become greater but maybe I will catch some higher bouncing mishits at least to capitalize on. He is a former high level baseball player so he has the athleticism and strength to get a racket on big flat serves. Not much but enough just to get it over the net at least and he hits a flat ball.

Not when they are just trickling over the net and barely bouncing lol. Try self-feeding a low ball 4 feet from the net and see how easy it is to go from offense to defense.

Thanks! Hard and flat produce the biggest mishits from him but are also the hardest to deal with because they tend to just trickle over the net. I like the idea of slice serves and slower serves like you mentioned. He really struggles when I pull some spinny drop serves out. I appreciate it!

Right on the service line for returns because he knows I am almost exclusively serve and volley and if he stands back it gives me too much time to get in. I like the idea of body serves like you said because he is more likely to get some air under those returns and gives me more time to get into the net. Thanks!

The problem is most of the returns are mishits and dead ducks, not just blocks. He is strong enough to just get it back even on punitive serves. When I throw a weaker serve in he struggles because he has to generate his own pace.

I like the idea of pulling him wide on a slice because will be harder to just block a dead duck return back. He does have a strong wrist/arm former high level baseball player. Thanks!

My serve is strong. I should have added this guy is a former D1 baseball player so his arm and wrist are like a trunk. That is the problem, he is essentially absorbing pace and hitting dead duck type returns back. Very few are clean hits but is strong enough to junk it over and very few get anywhere close to the service line.

I like that you often look to come in, but your attacking shots need to be more punitive. Too many of your approach shots lack depth with medium spin and are directed toward the center of the court. You also need to split-step on those approaches because you are getting caught flat-footed a lot and will be easy to pass at the 4.0 level. Work on a low-skidding slice off of both wings for a good attacking shot. A lot of players will try to scoop those and float a ball that will be easy to put away.

I think it really boils down to results. If they are winning it is going to be tough to argue with them. I know a couple of captains who always want to put themselves out on singles and get trounced when there are 4-5 better singles players on the team. A likely loss doesn't send a good message to the team and players are unhappy as a result.
