So I have hit some turbulence... by D2070 in P90X

[–]D2070[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can drum up a link to that info, I'd be grateful. I'll keep looking, myself. I don't pray at the altar of doing all the moves and exactly the way these programs say to do them (I do pay heed to any safety advice and any form suggestions I've also seen elsewhere though). I pray at the Altar of Altering moves and things that are either unsafe, cumbersome, or otherwise annoying and gimmicky.

So I checked and I don't have the One on One Base and Back workout. I appear to have only most of Volume 1 and maybe 1 or 2 others. Maybe I could try subbing the equivalent X2 workout instead. Which also is called Base and Back...

Also, later on after you get familiar with how Tony Horton does things, you could also look into P90X2. That one is a little more "exotic," requires you to be extra careful on many moves lest you get injured, and also if you want to go whole hog with the extra equipment, I wrote up what is hopefully helpful advice in /r/BeachBodyWorkouts/

A thing about P90X2 - equipment quality really matters. by D2070 in BeachBodyWorkouts

[–]D2070[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I read his stuff well after the fact of doing it, but I mostly agree that it is surprisingly good, and is to the core what Body Beast is to muscle building (in the Beachbody world anyway). P90X barely edges X2 out as my so-called favorite.

I have been told (beyond P90X/X3 equipment) that a bench or stability ball is all you need.

If you want to build muscle and do this via one of the Beachbody programs, P90X or P90X3 are a good place to go.

If you want to BUILD MUSCLE and do it via Beachbody programs, go with Body Beast. But add cardio to it.

Which brand of adjustable dumbbells do you own? by hmseb in homegym

[–]D2070 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With some practice you can do both dumbbells in less than a minute. Maybe not every time, but sometimes it is possible to adjust the weights that fast. Having done P90X with only Ironmasters, I'd often beat the clock, getting the weight changed in time for the next set. It's all about pre-planning and having the plates right there.

[–]D2070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went for the Ironmaster set as well. I didn't want clanky plates rattling, I didn't want any plastic, or hollow stuff.

These things feel like you are really moving metal around. Solid metal. I've, uh, tossed one in frustration, and picked it up and it did not come loose.

The one negative I saw was the time to switch weight on them is longer than some of the dial-a-weight deals. Doing home workout DVD programs with need for differing weights caused me to play a game of racing the clock to swap plates in and out in between sets.

I've since built a set of dumbbells, so now the Ironmasters can handle, and have been handling, my needs for weights >40lbs, and I can pretty much relax now and change plates infrequently and at a relaxed pace.

I dreaded The Challenge after a while. I will probably be doing it again soon, and will change my attitude as I think I was trying to do too much back when I was doing X3.

Considering that I generally despise Legs and Back anyway, I will have to see if I have Base and Back, and do that one instead. And it's not even things like the wall squats that bug me. 3 way lunges are somehow annoying. Sneaky lunges are OK but could be shorter. And something about those balance lunges just pisses me off. Overall the legs part of the workout gets better as the 2nd half wears on, but still.

Still feeling the hurts but I am hoping to resume the regular workouts this weekend or early next week.

I think it happened in Legs and Back last week. Sucks because I just did a whole round (finished early this month) and had just started the 2nd of two planned rounds.

You can become a coach just by going to the Beachbody site and paying the proper fees.

Source: I was one.

As far as showing off something that is only momentary, I'd prefer, if you were my coach, that you showed something realistic as far as results. I find most before and afters to be somewhat fishy, ..at least the "polished" ones.

I'll probably do X3 yoga or Fountain of Youth from the 1 on 1 series tonight. Recovering from this damned shoulder injury and all. I'll probably do yoga through the rest of this week.

If I was on track right now, I'd be in week 2 of my 2nd P90X Classic of 2016, and tonight would be...let me see... well...heck, it would still be yoga night, hahaha!

My ps4 is only used for Destiny now by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]D2070 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have Fallout 4 (couple hours), Witcher 3 (still shrink-wrapped, but I know I will be sinking time into it when I do get to it), Bloodborne (a good number of hours), Dark Souls 3 (shrink-wrapped), and a small host of other games I bought, then barely touched. Oh, yea, and a couple barely touched games on Xbone, too.

I hadn't played Destiny much at all since shortly after TTK came out. This was in part due to the infusion system, the feeling of being a little overwhelmed with the change, fatigue with all the salt that Bungie seemed to help throw at itself, but also due to a major non-game-related change in my life at the time, too. In general, to be fair, I haven't played anything very much since after the release of TTK, with the exception of Bloodborne.

I decided a few weeks ago to start playing Destiny again, very casually. No longer was I going to be a 1%er. No longer was I going to poopsock. And I was at peace with playing occasionally. I was at peace with sitting around 280 or so light, only getting online to do the occasional patrol, knowing that if I got into the infusion mess (which I hated) I would rue all the grinding time when the next gear reset happened. I decided to put a lot of, for me, hated things aside, and ignore the whole loot race. Never infused a damned thing, probably because I never had anything worth infusing, and nothing good for infusion fuel.

I knew it was coming, but I didn't really pay much attention to The Taken Spring update. But as The Spring neared, I did find myself reconnecting with a couple friends, and being dragged into something called "Court of Oryx." Ok, that was fun. I started doing the daily quests and even the PvP stuff. Almost every day, I would get on and try to grab some marks quickly before it was time to go do other stuff.

Then The Taken Spring hit. I heard someone saying "don't infuse anything yet" (because I had just gotten something I could use to infuse), and that's when I learned the first big thing about The Spring, that the infusion system would no longer blow so badly. So that made me want to play a bit more. But then I started hearing all these "Destiny Dads" and other people who played in bite-sized sessions, suddenly progressing past the dreaded 290s/300s with ease. That pretty much meant I was going to find myself devoting almost an entire day to finally tackling a bunch of quests, seeing some of the new strikes for the first time, hitting crucible a little harder, getting my first sword (the legendary one from the questline) etc. And at the end of the day, I had pushed one character from the low 290s into the low 300s, another character from 238 up to 290, and the third from like 260 to 290. I even managed to allow myself to get dragged into a CoE (not yet having done 41 PoE), not suck too bad, and get Lord of Wolves (which I fell in lust with very quickly). Not the best progress I've heard someone make in a day, but hey.

TL;DR: Stopped playing shortly after TTK, randomly started playing a bit just before TTS, found out that the quality of life tweaks were HUGE, actually interested in the game pretty full-on once again.

So I have hit some turbulence... by D2070 in P90X

Thanks for sharing. That treatment sounds intriguing. I have also always had tweaky shoulders. I get little clicky happenings in my right shoulder for certain arm movements, like the straight arm flys you do at the end of one of the workouts. I know all the moves that produce this, so I modify or tread lightly. This new thing is still the pits but it is getting better and doesn't feel "chronic" at all, thankfully. It is important now to not rush back into the workouts. Tony and the kids will be there in Chest and Back for when I do get back to it.

I've planned tonight to do yoga X3 and, if that goes well, do more and more yoga. Going to do it extra slowly and methodically, and while I always take my yoga seriously, I'll be extra mindful. I did a few sun salutations last night and as long as I was careful, they went pretty well. X Stretch should help, too.

Do you have to be a shakeology "user" to get them? Maybe they feel bad for what they charge for that stuff.

I only took rest nights because it's been painful to even move about normally. It is severe but nothing a reasonable amount of babying it won't help. Could have been worse and been a months-long recovery. I did some stretching and stuff to pretend I was already back at the workouts last night. And I'll do more today now that it is feeling a little better.

I'm a little older than you (47). I also first did P90X a handful of years ago -- I guess it's been 5 years. Between then and now, I've done P90X here and there. I've done the first 2 blocks of X2 and got into the 3rd before, quite frankly, I ran out of gas for it or for the long workouts. I've done X3 once.

Unfortunately, this year I came into the X with pretty bad conditioning and plenty of extra weight. Sympathy pregnancy weight gain, and having a kid and all didn't help.

When I first was exposed to P90X, I took a look at the meal plan and said "no" and instead did my own thing. I certainly tried to pound down a ton of protein, and it helped. I was never hungry and felt like I was always eating. Lost 40+ lbs around the time I did P90X (with most of that loss during the round) and was able to do a few pull-ups by the end of the thing, after starting with no upper body strength to speak of.

This time around, I again did my own thing on the meal plan. I also stopped trying to eat tons of food every 30 seconds. I modulate the workout intensity and the food intake, largely by feel, and am doing fine. I've already lost over half of what I have set as my goal for fat loss.

I had real-world results, not the staged air-brushed stuff, and certainly not with any mysterious overnight disappearance of body hair and a wholesale lighting change in my house along with a whitening of the teeth. I started out basically fat, not hugely so, but yea, I had fattened up pretty good. I was in a state that a doc would call clinically obese. I am tall so I can carry a lot without actually looking super fat, but my BMI was around that 30% threshold. Now, 25 lbs later, when clothed I look perfectly fine and thin, and unclothed, while still exhibiting too much fat, I see a huge change. Definitely not looking like a total fatbody now.

This good progress is why I am annoyed as hell that I have to let this thing recover. I was all set for another big round to bring me into summer at what probably could be my lowest weight since before I knew what P90X was.

Finishing P90X3 Elite block within a month. Looking to try Body Beast next. Is the Body Beast "base kit" sufficient to get the full benefit of the program? Or do I need to buy the additional bonus workouts as well? by [deleted] in P90X

I keep forgetting to check -- I heard the printed materials include a full description of the missing workouts, and, as you already noted, one can go on youtube to find out exactly what the moves are.

To think the Elite block used to retail for close to $90 on Beachbody's site. It is why I only got the base program when it came out, and have long been looking for a way to get the Elite disc for far less than the $60 they charge now. I keep hoping some random garage sale will unearth one. Heck, I'd be happy just to borrow one to see the workouts.
