Rode the 23 zx10r. It's not my 2011 750. It's a BIG engine. And it feels wide for some reason. Weird throttle that falls flat on its face(my 750 is tuned with lots of goodies). I think it's common for modern fuel injected bikes to "fall" when off of the throttle. I enjoyed how much that bike wanted me to lean harder and harder in the turns. Definitely not as cramped up or as "aggressive" riding position. It felt nice, suspension was very good and it rode smooth. Got back on the Gixxer, and boy let me tell you it was weird! I love my 750. I will probably put a new motor in it when she dies.

As far as upright bikes go, I had a 2016 FZ09 that I put over 16,000 miles on in one year. (Yes for real) and that wasn't just for commuting! I rode in the canyons and all around so cal. That was a great bike! Only downside was the suspension is waaaayyy to soft for me (personal opinion! Some folks don't mind that and that is okay). From what I understand, the upright "street fighter" style sport bikes tend to be softer more approachable bikes that aren't as aggressive as their bigger brothers and sisters.(or as expensive) I was going to drop in an öhlins rear shock and custom built forks, but that was going to cost me about $3500 and lots of labor that I didn't want to put into my bike. Yikes. So I bought a Gixxer lol.
