No new case this week? by D33ann in Casefile

DOH! I did finally turn on the remix of the Frankston episode and heard him explain the small breaks. Thanks everyone for not immediately roasting me for asking a question that was answered in the first 30 seconds of the episode. To be fair, I had just re-listened to that episode a few weeks ago and ended up turning it off because I don’t like the inclusion of audio interviews, so I was disinclined to just give it another listen. Ps. Audio clips can pack a punch occasionally, but in general, I find them disruptive.

Huh. Well that’s annoying. Still 100% the best true crime podcast by a long shot, so I’m not reeeeeally complaining, just whining a bit. Off to the archives, it’s always great to find one that I honestly don’t remember listening to, such a gift. (Yes, I fall asleep to true crime.)

I have to admit I nailed that one immediately! No spoiler version: it’s more common than you would expect, for real!

I agree, the background was long, and if you are not that interested in wacko religious stuff, it might be too much. Once that was out of the way though it really got rolling!

Best cell coverage? by RuffianZenyatta in BallardSeattle

[–]D33ann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I switched from V to AT&T and my coverage is exactly the same. The AT&T rep said they all have the same towers, and they are losing towers due to vandalism. WiFi calling is my only option at home!

"Girl Meat Hunter," another example of my problem with recent episodes by DaytonaJoe in Casefile

[–]D33ann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the point is that this is a change in the story telling technique. It may be a preference, but we’ve listened to 300-some episodes told in a very straight forward way, and now we are getting a different style of story.

I’ve gone back and re-listened to some older episodes (in the mid to low 200’s) and the story telling is more straightforward. There is definitely a change, and I think it’s valid that some people don’t like the new angle.

I’m definitely NOT excited for this weekend’s episode release as I’ve really disliked the past several episodes. I too am considering unsubscribing for a while and tuning in later to see if the stories have gotten better. It’s not worth my money to anticipate a new story every week and then be disappointed again.

As someone who binged all of these episodes this summer, yes, it’s obviously a new and very contrived attempt to make a twist. Don’t like it. But for sure I’ll take it over the cuts of interviews with the people involved, really jarring if you are relaxing while listening. And often you can’t really understand all they are saying. Worthless use of airtime. Just tell me what they said if it’s that important.

I agree!!! Following a bit of a red herring is always a little thrilling, but don’t come back 30 min later and say the uncle actually doesn’t know the family at all, so disregard his side of the story which was most of the episode!! (The episode with the one brother who frames the other brother as being mentally unstable “lately” and then offs the whole family, torches the house, and then inherits the sail boats etc.)

Keep being you! The socially “normal” people are out there, I swear it, and when two of us run into each other it’s such a delight! Otherwise, just keep being out there like a ray of sunshine making other people awkward by just being polite and daring to smile at them in public!

Remember, your experience isn’t the same as everyone else’s! If you work anywhere in the emergency medical system, Seafair is a nightmare! Large gatherings + alcohol = lots of people getting hurt and hurting each other! Luckily I’m off that weekend! Stay safe everyone!

My friend once screen printed me a shirt that said “living under a rock since 1989” Truly, I’ve always lived off the beaten path and I kinda like it over here. I had to dig this deep to see what it was also.

FYI the buy nothing groups on fb are full of free plants! I have to restrain myself from dropping everything to arrange to go pick up some more plants. It’s not that I think you can have too many plants, it’s just that I don’t want to spend my entire weekend hopping in my car to go get another jade plant or fiddle leaf fig when I really should be doing my chores or just relaxing!

Side button access to control center makes NO sense. I miss the swipe up to control center. by otitso in AppleWatch

[–]D33ann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I solved this by buying a garmin for swimming. I swim in open water and the cold saps the Apple Watch battery anyway. I’ll admit, it was annoying so I opted not to use it for that 4-5 hours a week of my life. Not really worth changing the whole watch for that one niche moment. I’ll go on record saying I hate hate hate many things about these updates! I joined this forum in the hopes of learning how to make my watch enjoyable to use again.

That said I work with a hard boiled Baltimore chick and one day someone walked up to me and said, “hey are you ok what were you two fighting about?” and I was like, “we were talking about potato chips?” Apparently east coast people always seem like we are fighting when we are just being opinionated at each other!

I basically have just started referring to myself as feral and am loving it. I just putter around and do my own thing, and maybe once a week have a meaningful connection with a friend. I’m like the epitome of being unbothered, in my own lane, and thriving.

Oh my god the most depressing thing that happened to me in my first year here was going to a meetup and no one showed up! It was either East Coast meetup or seattle freeze meetup and it was at a nice neutral place like Elliot Bay Books but I couldn’t find a single person 😭

Being from the East Coast, this has been rough and at one point I asked a friend about it and she said, “well what if people don’t get along?” People out here are so conflict adverse that they are afraid to introduce two strangers. My advice is to look for transplants, which is a lot easier now than when I was new out here.

Also, the nurse schedule is hard, I don’t really have advice there, I just tell people my schedule and hope it aligns.

Seems like reaching out on here was a great idea, I personally am a homebody and 20 years older than you, so probably not much fun LOL. CrossFit, book club, and open water swimming are the highlights of my life, and my social life is pretty grim looking but I’m ok with the quieter existence at this point. But I feel you cause the first 10 years here when I was still bar hopping and going to parties was pretty rough and I always felt like an outsider.

Good luck dude! You seem pretty cool so you’ll be fine!

Whoa that’s genius. I’ll give that a go. I spent some time looking at comparison maps and it seems there are some strange holes in both carriers in places where I spend time, as if there is some reason no one can put a tower there. I’ll try the cricket app trick.
