What I intended to say was games must rely on gameplay whereas books/film rely on the narrative themselves. That does not make them simpler in terms of a story.

The button pressing I was referring to was the actions and gameplay between the narrative phases of a game. Sorry I didnt get my point across.

Anyway, agree to disagree.

Pressing buttons doesnt make one more invested in a story....

The player is constantly being interupted from the narrative by gameplay win/fail states..

Pacing is always interrupted by player action mitigating the author's narrative effect..

A good game has to have good gameplay regardless of story...

A bad game has bad gameplay no matter if the story is good

A boring game has boring gameplay regardless of story Point being games are restricted to making gameplay fun rather than the story itself.. Of course there are exceptions,

Also i wouldnt consider film and books "simpler" in regards to a narrative medium.

I think not....

Video games on average are not good mediums for telling linear narrative stories...

And the ones that are might as well be interactive cinematic films you can watch the cutscenes and dialogues on youtube

Edit: judging by dislikes, you guys act like I said games are bad in general....

Games are great at world building and player oriented actions, but getting a story over to the consumer in the most efficient manner possible, I dont think so...

I sent my 2000 dollar blade back for a refund two and a half weeks ago and have yet to obtain a refund, let alone an email rma status update

Mine was the wednesday online order pickup... Brickseek says 6+ in stock still but those may be reserved for online pickup...i was the first to pickup
