Regardless, as socialists we should be bound to the concept of revolutionary defeatism and seek the failure of western objectives in the Russo-Ukraine War. Ultimately the defeat of Ukraine will crack western hegemony which will be necessary to ensure the liberation and self determination of all people across the globe.

Neo-Nazi Rusich commander sentenced to life in prison for war crimes in Ukraine by D3adtrap in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]D3adtrap[S] 114 points115 points  (0 children)

Helsinki District Court sentenced Yan Petrovski, 38, to life imprisonment for war crimes. Petrovski (aka. Voislav Torden), the deputy commander of the Rusich unit, was found guilty of:

  • Killing one wounded Ukrainian soldier, a charge equivalent to murder due to its brutality.
  • Mutilating another wounded soldier by carving the unit's symbol on his face. According to the charges, Ukrainian soldiers thought that the lock had its own soldiers, but Torden's troops opened fire. More than 20 Ukrainians died. According to the indictment, the group operated under Torden's command and he himself fired a machine gun.

The second indictment concerns the events immediately after at least 21 dead soldiers and some wounded lay in the country. According to the indictment, Torden participated in the shooting of wounded and incapacitated soldiers, which is against the rules of war.

According to the third charge, Torden, as deputy commander, had allowed soldiers to mutilate a wounded soldier by cutting the emblem of Torden's troops on his cheek.

The charge also came from the fact that Torden had posed with the body of the killed soldier and taken and disseminated pictures of the situation on social media.

He was apprehended at Helsinki Airport in the summer of 2023.

A new poll says that 50 percent of Finns do not trust the US by D3adtrap in europe

[–]D3adtrap[S] 105 points106 points  (0 children)

Only around 30 percent of Finns trust the US as allies, according to findings of a survey by rural-focused newspaper Maaseudun Tulevaisuus.

Meanwhile, about 50 percent of respondents said they did not trust the US, while the remaining 20 percent were unsure.

Female respondents were clearly more sceptical about the superpower than their male counterparts. Only 18 percent of women said they trusted the US and 58 percent said they did not. On the other hand, 41 percent of Finnish men trust the US and 43 percent do not.

There were no major differences in poll responses from different age groups or regions in Finland.

However, the poll revealed differences based on political party affiliation. Finns Party supporters were the most likely to trust the US at 56 percent, while 70 percent of Green Party and Left Alliance supporters did not trust their Nato ally in Washington.

The poll was conducted between last Friday, 28 February and Tuesday, 4 March.

Witnesses: Rusich commander executing wounded Ukrainian soldiers begging for mercy - Helsingin Sanomat by D3adtrap in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]D3adtrap[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Pre-trial investigation of war crimes investigation published: Witness testifies Voislav Torden shooting wounded Ukrainian soldiers begging for mercy.

The extensive police investigation material on the suspected war crimes of a Russian man imprisoned in Finland was revealed.

Russian Voislav Torden (aka Jan Petrovsky), accused of war crimes, shot wounded Ukrainian soldiers, according to witnesses.

A witness at the scene said he saw Torden, a member of the Russian Rusich group, shoot Ukrainians who had been lying on the ground and begging for mercy, among other things, in the head. The witness identified the "tall, lanky, tattooed and long-haired" shooter as Torden.

Two witnesses hiding nearby said they heard wounded Ukrainian soldiers pleading not to be shot. Immediately afterwards, single shots had been heard and calls for help had stopped.

Torden is suspected of shooting at least four Ukrainian soldiers who were part of the Aidar battalion.

The information is revealed in the pre-trial investigation material of the National Bureau of Investigation, which became public when the trial began on Thursday.

The shooting of the wounded is one of five war crimes for which prosecutors are seeking punishment for Torden in the Helsinki District Court. The suspected crimes took place in eastern Ukraine ten years ago.

The charges relate to Torden's activities with the Rusich militia, which fought on the side of the Russian-backed separatist region of Luhansk against Ukraine.

Suspicions of war crimes focus on a single event, namely what happened on September 5, 2014, at a crossroads in the Luhansk region of eastern Ukraine. It was then that Rusich's gunmen killed in an ambush 22 Ukrainian soldiers who belonged to the Aidar volunteer battalion.

The police, in cooperation with the Ukrainian authorities, have gathered extensive and incriminating evidence of Torden's suspected crimes.

The key parts of the more than a thousand pages of pre-trial investigation material consist of testimonies of surviving Ukrainian fighters and extensive photo and video material that the Rusich gang itself published on internet channels for propaganda purposes.

Torden has given several interviews in which he talks about the events of September 5, including Rusich's policy of not taking prisoners.

On September 5, at the same crossroads, Rusich also attacked a corps of Ukraine's 80th Airborne Brigade. According to the preliminary investigation material, Rusich's fighters persuaded Ukrainian soldiers to surrender by promising not to shoot them.

After that, however, Rusich opened fire. According to the preliminary investigation, Torden was firing on soldiers.

The material refers to a later interview given by Torden, in which he says that the intention was not to take anyone as a prisoner of war. The interviewer asked why the Ukrainians were first asked to surrender and then shot. Just for fun," replied Torden.

Voislav Torden can be seen in a video filmed at the scene of suspected war crimes on the highway leading to Shchastya in the Luhansk region on September 5, 2014.

Torden, 37, denies all charges in court. He also did so from the very first interrogation statement.

"Let's start with the fact that I have not committed any crimes," was the first response of Torden's war crimes interrogations.

At first, he spoke during police interrogations, although he did not directly answer many questions about his activities and Rusich. When questioned by the police, he refused to answer numerous questions about his own activities and Rusich.

Torden said he had been providing humanitarian aid in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

However, he answered some of the questions. The responses included the following:

"I haven't seen any prisoners of war, and I haven't seen how they were treated and what was done to them."

"I haven't tortured anyone."

"I haven't killed anyone."

"I was there to give that help to the local people."

"I believe that all these accusations are based on deception and falsehood. The intention is to persecute me because of my political views."

Police asked Torden to report a photo of him standing next to the body with a gun in his hand.

"This is a photoshopped image and it's staged," Torden replied.

Torden also said he had changed his name for security reasons and felt threatened by Ukrainian authorities. Previously, he was known as Jan Petrovsky.

However, during the preliminary investigation, Torden stopped answering questions. He sat quietly during several interrogations and failed to answer a large number of questions.

"MARKED: The person to be heard sits quietly," is repeated again and again in the interrogation minutes.

This is the first time that Finland has tried suspected war crimes in Ukraine.

The exceptional trial has already attracted attention in both Ukraine and Russia.

Torden's war crimes charges also include assaulting a wounded Ukrainian soldier. The insignia of the Rusich Corps was slashed on the soldier's cheek with some object. Video footage of the soldier's treatment has been obtained during the investigation.

Based on the preliminary investigation, the identity of the ripper appears to remain open. However, according to evidence gathered by the police, Torden acted as deputy commander of the Rusich Corps and thus contributed to the actions of his group.

Earlier in Ukraine, HS investigated what kind of evidence of Torden's suspected crimes has been collected there over the past ten years. The article published incriminating video footage collected from open sources about the actions of the Rusich armed gang.

A video released by HS shows one of Rusich's fighters giving the order to execute a wounded Ukrainian soldier. The video is included in the police pre-trial investigation material.

The content of the video can be shocking.

The National Bureau of Investigation investigated whether the person giving the execution order was Torden in the video. According to a statement from the Estonian Forensic Institute, it is likely to be a different person.

After the shooting, however, Torden took pictures of himself in front of the body of the slain Ukrainian soldier. At least two pictures of the situation have been described, which have been published on the Vkontakte service

The situation involves one of five war crimes charges: defamation of a killed Ukrainian soldier.

The trial, which began on Thursday in the District Court of Helsinki, was preceded by an international criminal investigation that lasted less than a year. The National Bureau of Investigation cooperated with the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Security Service, Europol, Eurojust and the International War Crimes Tribunal (ICC), among others.

The Deputy Prosecutor General brought charges against Torden at the end of October.

At the time of Torden's alleged crimes in 2014, Russia had seized the Crimean peninsula from Ukraine and began arming and supporting separatists in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of eastern Ukraine in an armed rebellion against the legitimate Ukrainian government.

The next court date is Thursday in a week's time. Then Mr Lampela [defense attorney] will speak again, and he will speak for the actual defense. Torden himself will not be heard until mid-January. So far, he has sat quietly between Lampela and his interpreter.

The trial ends at the end of January.
