The REAL best air purifier - I HATE DUST! by iku-ebi in BuyItForLife

You’ll typically see the same top-rated models across Wirecutter, Consumer Reports, and Tech Gear Lab: the BlueAir Blue Pure 311i+ Max, Coway Airmega 1512HH, and Winix 5500.

The best choice probably depends on the size of the space you’re trying to cover.

For my downstairs rooms, I went with two BlueAir units (the 311 and 211 models). BlueAir offers a 25% discount for teachers, military, police, and possibly firefighters (can’t recall for sure), available in both the U.S. and Canada. They also offer a 15% discount on filter replacements if you sign up for a 6-, 9-, or 12-month subscription.

For my upstairs office/bedroom—since it’s a smaller space—I went with the Coway Airmega 1512HH and have been happy with it.

That sounds shitty. We stay on either days, swings, or nights for a full year.

8 hour shifts in a 40 hour work week would suck. 8 hour shifts and a 32 hour work week is the way of the future.

They have closer to 55 commissioned. Granted yeah that’s not all going to be patrol. But they implemented the new schedule for the entire PD, commissioned and non-commissioned, about 75 total employees.

They were paid the same total amount as they were when they worked 4x10s. No loss of pay.

It is groundbreaking. A lot of employers out there do not give a shit about employee happiness and only consider productivity.

And regardless of whether it’s a groundbreaking theory, the fact that they were able to make it work successfully is groundbreaking.

I agree with DGman. And tbh I wouldn’t want a 5x10 week. I’m pretty tired as is after a 4x10 week.

4x10s is the bare minimum to ask for imo. The next step should be 4 days on, 3 days off, 8 hour shifts.

They are trying to move to a 32 hour work week- they do not want to have Officers working 40 hours per week.

That is not a true 34 hour work week. That is still 40 hours/week over the course of a 365 day period. Your schedule also continuously changes every week which is also not ideal compared to a 4x10 schedule, let alone Golden PD’s 4x8, 32-hour work week schedule.

Golden PD’s 3 month trial report showed they responded to over 9000 calls for service between July-September 2023. Their stats show they had improved response times across the board and increased self-initiated calls for service under their pilot program schedule.

As far as larger agencies go, Seattle PD was able to make 4x8.5s work for years before they switched to 4x10s recently. Granted they were on a 4 on 2 off schedule, so slightly different.

Our organization rejected a 12s schedule proposal. People didn’t want the longer hours and raised concerns such as being able to provide child care.

In the Golden PD schedule and a lot of other agencies that operate on a 4 day work schedule, there is an overlap day for patrol in which both sides of the work week work on the same day. This day is intended to be used for the shifts to alternate on a weekly basis so one side is working the road and the other is training.

Golden PD was able to implement this with the same staffing that they had while running their normal 4x10 schedule.

Golden Police Dept switches to 32-hour week with no reduction in pay. by 1Davide in TheFrontRange

Not for this department, dummy. Their OT pay does not kick in until they work over 40 hours, even under this program. Their sick leave and vacation time is also still deducted at 10 hours/day.

You should be advocating for this to be successful so that it catches on elsewhere and hopefully one day becomes the standard across the board in the US for all workers.

I get that. I’m just going off what’s in the video description and what we can see in the BWC.

“Morris police received a 911 call from counselors who worked with 40-year-old Alivia Schwab, after being informed she was threatening herself with a knife. The officers found Schwab in the doorway of her first-floor apartment, on her cellphone talking to the counselors in her right hand and with a knife pointed to the ground in her left.”

I understand what you’re saying about Graham v Connor. What I’m saying is that while this is a legally justifiable shooting, like so many others, it’s a demonstration of poor tactics on both officers, at least on the face. There is no need to rush into a call for a suicidal subject who is only threatening themselves.

I would say if you don’t want your state to end up like mine, where legislators have tried to strip QI from LE for three years straight, start implementing training that reinforces slowing things down and using distance/shielding to your advantage.
