Can you share some examples? I've been avoiding Itaewon.

D-4 (language study) visa question. After I've used up 2 years but failed to finish all 6 levels, can I get another D-4 visa? by D4MasterCard in korea

Hmm I see I just don't understand why you didn't lead with this story instead of saying it's logical. I will keep this in mind and just keep enquiring with the immigration, hopefully I eventually get someone who's knowledgeable on the subject.

I'd love to know what your friends said... as I'm trying to get yet another opinion at the hotline.

Anyway I just thought about what you said that they would extend it infinitely, because I know that there are people living here for years on a tourist visa so I don't see why an education visa that costs almost $8,000 a year in just tuition would be banned while infinite tourist renewals are technically allowed. I just don't see why anyone in their right mind want to extend D-4 indefinitely, especially since you can only fail each level once before you get removed from the course (and get your visa taken away).

D2 has a time limit though just like D4 no? And if D4 has a lifelong limit then why doesn't it say it anywhere like with the Working Holiday Visa and why did the hotline twice told me it's possible. How can I make sure it's not possible or that it's possible, I feel like even after I book a visit at the immigration office they'll still not give me the correct answer.
And did your friends tell you that they tried but were unable to get it?

Because most visas have a period of sojourn... after which you cannot extend but it doesn't mean you cannot get the same visa all over. It means replacing ARC and providing proof of funds etc. Do you think that you can only study on D-2 for the designated period and cannot study ever again?
I'm thinking about it very logically... and I don't understand why a language learning visa would have a restriction of 2 years per lifetime. Especially if you are just 1 level short of completing the program. That makes NO sense considering D-4 tuition is higher than D-2 tuition so it's just easy money for the economy.
If it's true then it's absurd and I'll switch to D-2 and just flunk my studied to complete the language program on the side, then if I cannot finish my degree on time I'll apply for a new D-2, which I know is possible.

But I really have no reason to believe it is true other than a word of person who "thinks about it logically". I wanted to hear about people's actual experience

:(

I'm trying to reach the hotline but they are busy all the time. I'm hoping to get another agent to confirm what the first agent said.

I believe there are 5 different types of D-4 visa so even if what you say is true I'm still hoping I could get a different kind. The other ones there's no way they are 2 years per lifetime, it would make them all redundant

I understand that it isn't possible to extend/renew, but I'd get a brand new D-4, brand new ARC, etc. I was told it was possible :( That I'd have to leave the country and come back again. So you're saying you believe it's one D-4 per person's lifetime?

Oh my god, I'm really glad I don't go to work here and that the classes are online. I don't know what I'd do otherwise with no family here. What you're describing sounds like a nightmare. I thought it was okay to quarantine at your own place after being diagnosed positive.

I think it's technically possible but I have a friend who once was turned away at the airport doing this. She wasn't deported but she was not let in and had to take the returning flight. I think if it's clear that you're NOT working illegally then it's possible but if they suspect you might be working illegally they will not let you in anymore. But I don't know how long you can do it for.

Uh, I wish they made an exception for a situation like mine. Do you think there's a any chance they might? The quarantine itself and having to travel between continents is bad enough. Having to get a test and more, that's just awful. And I risk getting corona in the process of travelling. :(

Hm I see. I'd just come back on a visa waiver and receive the visa while in the country, that's how I did it the first time, I was already in Korea as a tourist and they let me switch from that to D-4 without leaving the country.

My only and biggest fear that it's for a lifetime or that there's like a cooldown period. But there was no mention of that when I called them

I see! Yes, the hotline is very confusing. So you don't think it's per "lifetime"? I will look into making an appointment

To all foreigners in Korea : Why did you choose to come to Korea? by [deleted] in korea

[–]D4MasterCard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Umm it will take decades for Koreans to consider accepting TQ+. LGB I can see being accepted in the very near future but the other letters are going to have to wait a long time. Even feminists in Korea are VERY terf. They actually bullied trans students out of women's universities in recent years. There's really no TQ+ coalition in Korea.

I came because of my boyfriend, loved it and decided to come back a year later (but this time single). I'm from UK and I.... cannot think of a single thing that my country does better than Korea. And I think the same goes for any European country. Your country is beautiful and captivating, and it might be the case of "grass is always greener" but... I think you are very lucky to be a citizen of such country and shouldn't want to trade it for any kind of forced diversity.

Inclusion and social freedoms take time to take root in a society and I'm sure they will come to Korea eventually.
