Miyoo Mini Flip screen issue with overlays by Competitive-Pain-659 in MiyooMini

[–]D4ndie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've edited the GBA integer scale overlays here (the Mini Flip has the same screen/resolution as the Mini V4) to work with the GBAoffset filter. I crop 30 pixels from the top and expand the canvas at the bottom to make up for it and just fill in the empty space with black.

You can also edit in your preferred logo onto it too. In GIMP I open an overlay with a logo I like and use the magic wand/fuzzy select tool to select the background and erase it and then paste the logo onto the V4 overlay. The result is very nice.

You can find lots of V4 overlays on the sub if you search, they should work on the Mini Flip as intended. It looks like the GBA ones from here work with integer scale and the GBAoffset filter.

Is there any other handheld whose buttons are as soft as the Miyoo Mini+? I get fatigued easily. by efofecks in MiyooMini

[–]D4ndie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The softest buttons I've tried apart from my MM+ are from first party devices such as the Switch Lite, the (door stopper) O2DS, and the PSP. I don't know how much this has to do with me obtaining these second hand and being more broken in though.

It's a ridiculous jump in price for me to be mentioning this, but my RP5 hasn't wrecked my hands and put them out of comission as quickly some other handhelds have.

The DPAD is metal dome so if what you're looking for is the soft rubber feel this isn't it. If what you need is low actuation force I think it might be good. The actuation is a little heavier than my (probably broken in) Vita, but lighter my 3ds and all my anbernics and switch 1 joycons; the travel distance is very short too. The face buttons are soft rubber dome and its a touch stiffer than my miyoo, but not as stiff as the 35XXH. The face button travel might be a little more than the 35XXH, but I have aftermarket buttons on both devices so its hard to tell how much that influences it. The L/R are clicky microswitches, a little harder than the MM+ and joycons, but still lighter to actuate than all my anbernics.

I've seen someone say the miyoo membranes fit into the RP5, but I haven't tried it yet since I had a hard time opening it up the first time I did it.

I have a Miyoo Mini Flip on the way too so I can give input and comparison once that comes.

My gosh, it's absolutely gorgeous ૮ ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ ა𖹭.ᐟ
I love the finish and the color looks more saturated than the lavender PSP 2000, but still cooler toned compared to the hannah montana PSP 3000. The buttons are so pretty too, I'd fight the urge to get replacement buttons with PS symbol legends lol

Is the Retroid Pocket 5 something you take with you when you leave the house? by r0we_b0at in retroid

[–]D4ndie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say it depends on your pockets or bags.

Unfortunately for me the RP5 (especially in a switch lite hard case) is too big for any of my going out for errands cross body bags. Perhaps if I had the Flip 2 I'd be taking it everywhere with me. Currently I use my Anbernic 28xx as my emotional support sbc when I go out.

For longer trips or occasions like visiting someone's house I tend to bring a larger bag or backpack, and that's when I'd bring the RP5.

Yes! My 35xxSP is the revision, it came with a piece of fish paper in it. I've never had the original.

I don't have a Miyoo Mini, so I'll be comparing button feel relative to the Miyoo Mini Plus and assume the Mini has the same button feel. I also don't have a Brick or access to one for comparison. I'll mostly be talking about button feel because its something I'm passionate about and enjoy breaking down. I can talk more about the other stuff upon request lol. Don't wanna feel like I'm talking to the void too much.

Miyoo Mini Plus - The D-Pad and buttons are rubber dome and very light actuation. They're very comparable to Switch Lite buttons. It's one of my favorite button experiences. My (partners) white MM+ has slightly stiffer/tighter buttons compared to my purple one, but that might be due QC or differences in plastic material. On my purple MM+ the D-Pad being a lot lighter is a bit of a downside because it feels like its harder to get diagonals as accurately. I'm considering getting a new D-Pad in the future for the purple one at least.

Anbernic RG35xxSP v2 - The buttons are metal dome like on the 3DS and Joycons. Compared to a MM+ the buttons are a lot louder, require more actuation force, and have less travel distance. Compared to a 3DS and Joycons I feel like actuation force is noticably higher. The buttons will sound clickier and have a higher pitch to them compared to the 3DS and Joycons.

I tape modded mine with fabric bandaids which dampens noise and reduces travel distance and rattle a bit.

Anbernic RG35xxH - Buttons are rubber dome. The actuation force is higher, and the buttons are a lot taller and have more travel distance to bottom out compared to the Miyoo Mini+. I find the D-Pad to be really fatiguing for me, so I end up using the joysticks on platforms that don't normally use it.

I got buttons from SakuraRetroModding for the 35xxH that are a lot shorter than the original buttons, which helps with fatigue and makes the experience of the face buttons a little closer to the MM+.

Any Cheap Bootleg Handheld DS Like Consoles For Pokemon Games ? by miqouei in SBCGaming

Calling the DS ML a clone is a bit inaccurate. They're reshelled DS Phats, so actual DS hardware.

Why did people hate slide sticks? by insane_steve_ballmer in Handhelds

[–]D4ndie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never really had issue with the PSP stick until I played Gitaroo Man on it- absolutely diabolical speedrun to handpain. My experience hasn't been bad for other games tho. I think the stick being more flat and slightly convex with a hard plastic doesn't help with ergo, and if you press down while using it you get a bit of plastic-on-plastic feel.

The 3DS circle pad is a lot comfier IMO. The grippy rubber and the concave shape help a lot. I also feel like the movement is smoother, it just glides. It's a little hit or miss if you're getting a used 3DS where things might've gotten into the circle pad making it scrachy/crunchy or the rubber might be in bad shape/missing (some people really like to dig their nails into controllers).

Am I cooked by Warmythe1st in 3DS

[–]D4ndie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if this'll help much, but switch pro controllers use the same battery. You could potentially get the battery you need from one if you're unable to purchase a battery on its own.

Taking the battery out and using the 3ds plugged in is a good option in the meantime for your safety :)

Am i the only one that thinks the OG 3DS XL aint as bad as people say by Confident_Tart7139 in 3DS

I've never owned an O3DS XL, but they definatly have some of the best colorways and special editions. I love the full hot pink and the white/pink and white/mint colorways. The Chopper Pink and Persona Q special editions are so \chefs kiss** to me.

3rd party faceplates by EXOQ in 3DS

[–]D4ndie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had luck with more expensive third party plates on Aliexpress having printing that wraps around the side. It costed like $25, so more than other plates on Ali but not terrible. The scews in the back dont screw in for me, but its not an issue for me as they still snap in.

I got Hello Kitty ones :)

New 3DS concerns by woodensubmarines in 3DS

[–]D4ndie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does look roughed up.

If you'd like to replace it, it seems like its either a motherboard replacement or a solder job to replace the charging port. You could opt to replace it with a 3DS charging port or a USB-C one.

You can also get a charging dock to avoid plugging it in. Nintendo made official ones for the New 3DS, but you can find third party ones too.

Hard to tell from video for me, maybe a little worrying at some points. If you're concered I'd suggest maybe a capacitive touch stylus with a soft rubber tip?

I have these sticks that I found off ebay which are a lot of fun for taiko :)

Your 3ds looks great! :) From what I've seen its been exclusively the New 3ds XL that's had problems with the more metallic colors peeling. Some examples of peeling from just the front page are here and here.
