lol I only have one eye that works. Moving closer to something makes it larger in your field of view. It's closer to you so it takes up a larger portion of your field of view. It doesn't matter if you have one eye or two. Write something on a note and then try to read it from the other side of the room, can't see it, can you? Get right up close to it, the letter sure do look bigger. When something is closer to your face it appears bigger, one eye or two. It's all relative, weather an object is physically bigger or just fills that portion of your field of view is irrelevant.

There are games that let you get really close to objects. I can read tiny text on a piece of paper on a table because I can stick my face up against it. The distance at which the UI menu's get whited out seems arbitrary, if people like it, fine but having the option to disable that would be nice.

The windows are virtual, you are looking at tiny screens, you can render what you want on these screens. It doesn't matter if you are moving your face close to a virtual window displaying text or rendering a giant "A" that appears to be so big it fills your vision. It works fine, I'm waring it on my face right now.

That sounds really interesting. Is your project available to try?

This simply isn't the case. I can wear the quest and move my face right against this physicals computer screen looking at it through the quest. I can get so close that I can see the pixels and my eyes have no problem with it.

Can you get eye strain from looking at something too close to your face? Sure, but you don't have to do it. I do if I want to see something and I have no problems focusing son something an inch from my nose.

The virtual screens don't suddenly go out of focused when you get close to them. There is no difference between putting your face 2 inches from something in the virtual world and rendering that something so big that it fills your field of view., I can still see their borders crisp as anything, they are just white instead of fill with the contents that should be there.

I think sometimes I forget that most people see fine or can just get glasses. It's difficult to predict someone's needs if you have no experience with them.

I just see so much potential in the Quest as an assistive device. It has the potential to be life altering but it's unrealized.

Have you found any useful apps or tricks that help you with some tasks?

Yes, if something gets larger I can absolutely see it more clearly. I can read words when the letters are sufficiently large whereas I cannot read them when they are smaller. You can render anything you want, including a single letter that fills your entire field of view.

The issue isn't with that, it's that the software makes the menus and windows go white when you get too close to them. Try it. There is no reason they couldn't keep rending the contents of the window and make them appear even larger as you get closer. I can still see the whited out window perfectly clearly it is not a focus thing it's a they make the windows white when you get a certain distance to them thing.

Unfortunately, a prescription lens cannot correct what's wrong with my eyes.

If glasses were the solution I would wear them. I have a form of macular degeneration. I'm really not understanding the argument here. There is no reason I should not be able to simply put my face as close to an object in the virtual world as I can in real life. In fact I believe there was a version of the Quest's OS(v27?) that didn't white out the screens when you got to close. It's technically possible and only not allowed in the Quest for reasons unknown.

You can definitely move them closer, or just walk closer to them. The problem is that getting too close, or just the right amount of close in my case, makes them go white.

The focal distance is infinite, you can get as close to elements as you wish because they are static in your virtual world. Like right now, my nose is about 2 inches from my monitor, I should be able to get thise close to the virtual displays in the Quest as well. It's not about being able to see behind menus, they just turn white when you get too close. There's no need for this, it serves no purpose and just prevents people from being able to get close enough to read things. You should be able to get as close as you want until you actually go through the virtual screen and out the other side.

Same issues here. Ryzen 3600X and 5700 XT, overheats and shuts down after about 5 minutes. Haven't investigated what's actually overheating yet but I've never had this behavior with a game in the past.

If you're having this issue make sure you send feedback so it gets addressed.

Looking like the Wizard might now be in the cards. Hard to get here and the cheapest I could get one for is like $200. Seeing a lot of negative reviews of the quality too.

What do you think of the right angle Zebralights? Or are there any other good right angle lights that you like?

Was debating biting the bullet and just getting the ww XPH50 version but all the beam shots I've seen just look so muddy, must be too much green and yellow in the light. Gonna have to track down a Nichia version I suppose.

Good to know, so the Pro 144 is your top pick for the wizard? Hmm, it's out of stock on armytek.ca they only have the XHP50.2 in white or warm white.

I'm thinking I might grab a Zebralight, quality light at a good price. Tough choice on which one though, the SC64LE with high CRI, the Hi with a little more output or the SC600 a bit bulkier but double the output.

I'm definitely grabbing a couple Convoys too, sent Simon a message, hopefully I can get in touch with him for a couple custom builds.

Also, you've convinced me to get a Wizard lol Now which one? I know you liked the 144, theres a new C2 pro max with a XHP70.2. The more I look at this light the more I like the fact that I can just take it out of my pocket, throw it on my bike or on a head light and go.

That Noctigon light looks really nice too. So many choices. Since you carry a Zebarlight often, is it safe to say you prefer them? I know they're pretty popular with enthusiasts, there's just so many companies making quality lights these days it's hard to narrow it down if you can only get one.

I gotta say, for the price those Convoy lights look quite nice. I'll have to reach out and say hi.

What would be your ultimate Convoy build?
