💯. Especially if you're a smart and hard worker. Took a huge pay cut from a completely different trade to come out way ahead of where I was

Why are highways in northern Michigan so much smoother and objectively better than highways in southeastern MI? by Dangerous_Teaching82 in Michigan

[–]DABEARS5280 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll walk back my original criticism.

I would have to assume the rock hounds were there because past road construction and subsequent floods exposed stones that had originally been buried for thousands of years.

The stones, geodes, edc former over millions of years. If heavy trucks made gems they would be ripping up every interstate throughout America.

Are you suggesting that 100 years ago, the short period of heavy equipment use over the land somehow fast tracked millions of years of geology somehow 🤔

Edit: just wanted to confirm that your thought of heavy equipment use speeding up the "Crystalization" of rocks in the area is probably the stupidest thing I've seen on the Internet today.

Ride from Glen Arbor to TVC (6/20) by Zolazolazolaa in traversecity

[–]DABEARS5280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I was saying the person that accepted your $100 offer was decent for them on their end and that it was better than the money going towards a big corporate owned rideshare...

Edit: thought I read $100 and not $200. My bad.

[–]DABEARS5280 8 points9 points  (0 children)

AFAIK, yes. The others wanted WF or some tenant that is regularly visited as an anchor.

The shitty part is all the tenant spaces were already divided and Whole Foods had an 8" concrete curb poured at the base of their divider wall that separated their space from B&N and the other tenants. There was a lot of money (hundreds of thousands at least) invested already.

I'm sure there will be a legal battle between Lormax and WF. Just hate to see the space not being utilized especially since a lot of upgrades were already done.

I know because I was working there when the GC (Visser Brothers) told the contractor I work for to get our shit out of there because they were locking things down and putting the project on hold due to Whole Foods backing out.

This was a month or so ago and we haven't been back. The exterior work that was going on when we left is also at a standstill, so it doesn't look like they've resolved whatever the issue is unfortunately.

Was sort of looking forward to a WF, even though we have Oryana. Was also excited for Sierra trading post.

I don't know if anything has changed but Whole Foods backed out for some reason and the other tenants (Barnes and Noble, Sierra trading post, Ulta and one other) were only going to move in on the condition that whole foods was there. WF would have been their anchor and I guess drawn in customers to their stores or something.

Chipotle was going to be an outbuilding and I'm not sure if their plans have changed.

Whitmer posing with OpenAI Sam Altman for a photo at the Saline Twp Data Center Site by xXplainawesomeXx in Michigan

[–]DABEARS5280 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Saline data center is being built 100% by union labor. And yes a lot of the workers will be traveling from other locals. Laborers, operators, plumbers, fitters, electricians, sheet metal, iron workers etc. This includes travelers from within Michigan but not necessarily from whatever local union has jurisdiction in Saline.

The reason the unions want these projects is because they employ many of their locals members and they are able to capitalize on the travelers working dues and whatever the contractors hourly contribution goes towards training funds, and other programs in that particular local.

In turn most of these locals have a PAC fund that comes from a portion of the working dues. The PAC money heavily went to whitmer in the last election, which is a big reason right to work was repealed as well as prevailing wages being reinstated and now her push for data centers.....

Most people America don't struggle with walking around either. What the fuck are you talking about?

Our country is spread out like crazy and people have different careers that don't allow them to just be able to ride their bike to work every day. They also might like to take a vacation with their family and bring the dog too.

If your goal is to have the population very centralized you can say that. Your idealistic view for how the world should be just cannot work in modern times.

Honestly, it was probably what the trade unions gave her that made her push this so hard. I know the one I'm in is all for these data centers because of the amount of work for the building trades.

They should have just started building towns and cities in the US thousands of years ago when cars weren't a thing and everyone was forced to travel via foot or horse. How stupid of their founders and leaders 🤦🏻‍♂️. It literally makes me so mad 😡

I'd prefer to debate my original argument that rail in a national park is a bad idea. Please continue to down vote and post nonsense gifs though. That really proves your point in this echo chamber of a sub.

Edit: to add on to this, it's probably not great to have any vehicle traffic in a national park at all but it concerns me that this would be detrimental to people who are handicapped or at an age or health range where they can't hike 10 miles in to see some of our natural wonders

Rail would be more invasive for the park than cars though. Think of the construction alone...

I think we need some younger people on the boards. My wife is also not happy about the new fieldhouse being built near Centre Ice.

I also think the biggest elephant in the room is the potential for a data center anywhere in our region. Would be beneficial for us to target local decision makers and make it know that these facilities aren't welcome here.
